International Economic Relations

The training of specialists in the specialty "International Economic Relations" at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv has been carried out since 1972.

The main purpose of training in the field of international economic relations is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of the theory and practice of world economy, international trade in goods and services, international capital movements, labor and intellectual property, international finance. At the same time students receive professional knowledge of two foreign languages (the first one is English, the second is either German, French, Spanish, Arabic or Chinese). 

Bachelor graduates receive:

educational qualification:

· Bachelor of International Economic Relations;

professional qualification:

· Specialist in International Economic Relations;

· Translation Specialist. 

Master graduates eceive:

· Master of International Economic Relations;

professional qualification:

· International Economist;

· Translator.

 

Training of specialists in the Department of international economic relations is carried out within the framework of the following educational programs:

Practice of students majoring in "International Economic Relations":

In order for students to acquire primary practical skills, the curriculum provides for the following types of practice:

· Industrial practice (professional translation) (EL "Bachelor"),

· Industrial practice (undergraduate) (EL "Bachelor"),

· Industrial practice (undergraduate) (EL "Master").

Bases of practice are the Administration of the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the National Bank of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, the Embassy and Consulate of Ukraine, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Institute of International Relations), international organizations, national and foreign business structures, public organizations, etc.

Employment of graduates:

Graduates can hold primary positions: economist, economist in international trade, economist in planning, economist in finance, credit analyst, economist in taxes and fees, economist in accounting and business analysis, economist in pricing, econometrist, commodity market research analyst, contract and claims economist, economic consultant, economic observer, member of the executive body of the joint-stock company, member of the board of the joint-stock company, member of the audit commission, member of the supervisory board, junior researcher, lecturer (assistant) of a higher educational institution, economic adviser, attaché, diplomatic agent, translator from a foreign language.

Our graduates work:

• in executive positions in state bodies and institutions of Ukraine and 90 other countries of the world;

• in transnational corporations, joint ventures and enterprises with foreign capital;

• in international economic intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations;

• in business structures of all fields of economy of Ukraine and foreign countries;

• in higher educational institutions, academic institutions of Ukraine and foreign countries.

Scientific and pedagogical potential of the educational process:

The main educational process in the specialty is provided by two departments – the department of World Economy and International Economic Relations (graduating) (Head of this Department and the Department of Jean Monnet Doctor of Economic Sciences, Full Professor O. SHNYRKOV) and International Finance (Head of the Department, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Full Professor O. Rohach).

The Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations (graduating) was established in 1974 at the Faculty of International Relations and International Law due to the beginning of training in the specialty "International Economic Relations"; modern name has been in currency since 1999. Since 2008 the department is headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Full Professor O. Shnyrkov.

Today the department has fourteen lecturers. Among them there are: four full professors, doctors of economic sciences; three associate professors, doctors of economic sciences; six associate professors, candidates of economic sciences; one assistant, candidate of economic sciences.

During the years of work of the department the following scientific directions have been formed here: "European Union in the world economy", headed by Full Professor O. Shnyrkov; "World Economy and International Economic Relations", headed by Full Professor A. Filipenko; "Development of the world market of services", headed by Full Professor R. Zablotska; "Economic neoindependence in the context of globalization", headed by Full Professor N. Reznikov; "International Accounting Standards", headed by Doctor of Economic Sciences V. Mazurenko.

The department maintains international scientific relations with related departments of universities in Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Italy, Iran, Germany, Poland, Russia, the USA, France and other countries. The department has implemented more than 20 international large-scale long-term research projects TACIS, INTAS, TEMPUS, ERASMUS +, NATO, UNESCO, Oxford Economics, Jean Monnet and others. In 1991 The Center for International Economic Research was established at the department, in 2002 – the Center for Global Studies, in 2017 – the Center "Synergy".

The student groups "Economics of European Integration" work under the heading of Full Professor O. Shnyrkov, "Current trends in the world economy and international economic relations" under the heading of Full Professor A. Filipenko.

The Department of International Finance was established in 1999 under the name of the Department of International Monetary and Financial Relations; modern name has been in currency since 2009, head of the department, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Full Professor O. Rohach.

The scientific potential of the department consists of ten lecturers. Among them there are: four full professors, doctors of economic sciences; four associate professors, candidates of economic sciences; and two assistants.

During the years of work of the department the following scientific directions have developed: "Transnational Corporations", headed by Full Professor O. Rohach; "Foreign Trade", headed by Full Professor І. Puzanov; "International Banking", headed by Full Professor S. Tsyhanov, "Economics of financial systems and the theory of money, the functioning of international financial markets", headed by Full Professor O. Snizhko.

The Department of International Finance fruitfully cooperates with the universities of Norway, Spain, Poland, Lithuania, China, Azerbaijan and Turkey. The department also takes an active part in international programs and cooperates with: National Erasmus+ Office in Ukraine; The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission in Ukraine; UN Office in Ukraine; NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine; German Academic Exchange Service in Ukraine (DAAD); United Nations Development Program in Ukraine (UNDP); United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); Norwegian-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce; American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine and other international organizations. Over the past 15 years, lecturers of the department have participated in 3 multilateral long-term large-scale projects: Project PRORES (Pro-ecological restructuring for jobs) under the 7th Framework Program of the European Commission (2011-2015); TEMPUS Project "International Finance in Ukrainian Universities" (2001-2004); INTAS Project "Infrastructure Policy for Sustainable Growth in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine" (1997-1998). Scientific student groups have been established at the department, in particular under the heading of Doctor of Economic Sciences, Full Professor O. Rohach, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor N. Fareniuk and Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor O. Pidchosa.

The educational process is also provided by other departments of the Institute: Department of Regional Studies, Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy, Department of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service, Department of International Law, Department of Private International Law, Department of Comparative and European Law, Department of International Information, Department of International Media Communications and Communication Technologies, Department of Foreign Languages, departments of other institutes and faculties of the university.

In addition, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other ministries and departments of Ukraine, employees of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, international organizations, Ukrainian and foreign business structures, foreign lecturers of leading educational institutions of other countries are invited to give lectures, seminars or workshops.
