Introduction to International Law Specialty

The course is aimed at professional orientation and to familiarize students of the first-year of International law specialty as prospective International lawyers, with the basic fundamentals of the career, the fundamentals of the theory and practice of International law. In addition, the course is devoted to the study of basic theoretical legal issues such as the subject and the system of International law and its difference from nation

Theory of International Relations

The course aims to explore the concept and legal nature of international relations, tendencies of international relations development, systems and types of international relations. In addition, the course is devoted to the study of general issues such as subject and theory of international relations, and to encourage in-depth research of international relations contemporary issues.

2nd year of study

History of the International Law

The course ‘History of the International law’ provides with the basic International law definition and terms, analyzes steps of its development as separate study subject, and elaboration of theoretical grounds for its institutionalization, and methodological background, etc.

Public International Law (Basics of International Law Theory)

The course provides with the basics of general subjects: definition and nature of the International law, sources, system, principles and norms of International law. For advanced understanding of particular issues of the International Relations the course provides with the topics: interrelation between International law and national law, international personality, recognition in the International law, succession in the International law.

3rd year of study

Public International Law (Basics of International Law Theory) (Part II)

The course provides with the the legal processes in the sphere of interstate relations, the content of the doctrine, the basic theories and concepts of international law, international legal concepts and definitions, principles and norms of international law, the theoretical foundations of the law-making and law-enforcement activities of the international law.

Public International Law (Main Branches and Institutes)

The course provides with the knowledge of International law system, law-making and enforcement by International law actors, and main branches such as Territory in International law, International Maritime Law, International Air Law, International Space Law, International Criminal Law, Settlement of International Disputes, International Environmental Law etc.

International environmental law

The course aims to familiarize students with the features of the international legal regulation of cooperation in the field of environmental protection, understanding of place of international documents in the field of environmental protection in international law and its practical application in the decisions of international judicial and quasi-judicial bodies.

4th year of study

Public International Law (Main Branches and Institutes) (Part II)

The course aims to familiarize students with the main branches and institutes of contemporary public international law, the development of understanding skills of the international legal phenomena and elucidation of guidelines for the development of international law.

Law of External Relations

The course is aimed at professional orientation and familiarization of 4-year students  with the formation, historical background, current problems and legal regulation of foreign relations in the field of diplomatic and consular law, special missions and diplomatic law of international organizations.

Law of International Treaties

The course ‘Law of International Treaties’ provides with the theoretical and normative material for the development of vocational skills logically justify and express their views on the issues of treaty law, creating skills for understanding and conclusion of international legal agreements.

International Air Law

The course is aimed at professional orientation and to familiarize students with the features of the international legal standards in international air transportation, legal processes in the use of subjects of International law airspace features, international legal cooperation in the field of air transportation.

International Space Law

The course is aimed at professional orientation and to familiarize students with the features of the international legal regulation of relations arising in the course of exploration and use of outer space, the characteristics of the legal regime of outer space and celestial bodies, the legal status of space objects and their crews responsibility under the international space law, modern regulatory framework of space activities.

International Maritime Law

The course is aimed at professional orientation and familiarization of 4-year students with the formation, historical background and contemporary issues of International Maritime Law.

Law of International Security

The course is aimed at study of International law governing relations between subjects of public International law in the field of maintenance and restoration of international peace and security.

International law mechanisms of human rights protection

The course is aimed at studying the historical processes of the foundation of international human rights law and its current state, law making and enforcement activities of International law actors in this field. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of universal human rights mechanisms that operate within the UN system or created by basic universal human rights treaties.

5th year of study

Law of the World Trade Organization

The course is aimed at professional orientation and familiarization of students with the formation, historical background and contemporary issues of multilateral trading system, functions of WTO agreements, admission procedures, lawmaking and enforcement by WTO and its members.

International Humanitarian Law

The course aims to explore the concept and historical development of International Humanitarian Law, its sources and principles, features of international legal regulation of the wounded, sick and shipwrecked persons, legal protection of prisoners of war, civilians and civilian objects in armed conflicts and the relationship between international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Law and Economics (Intellectual Property Including)

The course is aimed at the study of the functioning of legal norms in the institutional environment, the practical application of the theoretical foundations of law and economics.

International Custom Law

The course is aimed at professional orientation and familiarization of 1-year MSc program students with the formation, historical background and contemporary issues of International Custom Law.

International Criminal Law

The course is aimed at studying international criminal law as a branch of International law and discipline, processes of formation and the current state of international criminal justice, characteristics and composition of international crimes, principles of international criminal responsibility of individuals, the legal framework of cooperation in the fight against crime.

International Investment Law

The course is aimed at the study of international agreements aimed at creating international standards for regulation of investment activity, the process of making international investments, procedures, judicial and extrajudicial protection of investors, the problems of development and investment environment.

History of International Legal Doctrines

The course is aimed at studying the historical background of the International law development, characteristics of periods of its development, basic doctrines, concepts leading thinkers in the Ancient World, the Middle Ages, the era of capitalism and modern times, as well as features of science in Russia and Ukraine.

Law of International Responsibility

The course is aimed at study the provisions on responsibility of States for internationally wrongful acts, and study the principles of responsibility of other actors in international public law.

International Justice

The course is aimed at study of the principles of the International Court of Justice and other judicial institutions.

International Tax Law

The course includes the study of the tax systems of different countries, international relations and interstate cooperation in the taxation field, the main areas of fighting with tax evasion and money laundering.

International Transportation Law

The course is aimed at professional orientation and to familiarize students with the features of the international legal standards in international transportation, international institutional mechanism of cooperation in the transportation sector.

6th year of study

Methodology and Organization of Scientific Research on the Theory and Practice of International Law

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the actual problems of law making and application of International law and its interaction with the national legal systems, European Union law, international private law, to prepare students for final state exam on International law.

Career Guidance

The course aims to familiarize students with the terms and conditions of employment to the Public Civil Service, private legal practice, research and teaching activities and work for the international organizations and institutions.

International Environmental Law

The course aims to explore the concept, subject and sources of international environmental law, its formation and development, the characteristics of the institutional mechanism of the international environmental law.

Human Rights in International Law

The course is aimed at studying the historical processes of the foundation of international human rights law and its current state, law making and enforcement activities of International law actors in this field. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of universal human rights mechanisms that operate within the UN system or created by basic universal human rights treaties.

Occupational safety (in sector)

The course aims to develop effective management skills of occupational safety on the basis of scientific and technological progress and international experience, as well as awareness of indissoluble unity of successful professional activity and complying with all the safety requirements. It will focus on the national and international legal regulation of occupational safety. The studies will also cover an analysis of international cooperation in the field of occupational safety, management systems of occupational safety in organization, its promotion, and responsibility for violations of occupational safety, state supervision and public control on it.

International Law of Disputes Settlement

The course is aimed at studying the mechanisms of international disputes settlement in the system of International law, namely: negotiation, mediation, international investigative procedures, international conciliation (conciliation), classic, commercial and mixed international arbitration International Court of Justice, the UN and regional international organizations to resolve international disputes.

Contemporary Problems of Theory and Practice of International Law

The course aims to explore topical issues of International law: force usage in the post-bipolar system of international relations, human rights in a ‘global war on terrorism’, the rule of law in international relations, unilateralism and multilateralism in International law, problems of development and use of International law, international legal hermeneutics, etc.

International Energy Law

The course is aimed at understanding of students of international law side of contemporary international relations in the energy sector. The main objectives are to familiarize students with key international legal instruments and mechanisms in this area which serve as protection of international energy supplies from various risks.
