The Department of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service was established in 1992 to ensure a thorough study at the Institute of International Relations of the basics of modern diplomacy, diplomatic and consular service, diplomatic protocol and etiquette, the history of Ukrainian diplomacy, the theory and practice of multilateral diplomacy (international universal, regional and specialized international organizations), diplomatic practice of special missions, international conferences, meetings, etc., which an integral part of training specialists for the field of external relations, including personnel for the diplomatic service of Ukraine.
The scientific potential of the Department consists of 9 full-time scientific and pedagogical staff members, among them: 3 Doctors of Sciences: Doctor of Historical Sciences (Ph.D.), Professor V. Matvienko; Doctor of Political Sciences (Ph.D.), Professor Yu. Skorokhod; Doctor of Historical Sciences (Ph.D.), Professor N.Yakovenko; 6 Candidates of Sciences: Candidate of Historical Sciences (Ph.D.) T.Shynkarenko, Candidate of Political Sciences Professor O.Kovtun; Candidate of Political Sciences (Ph.D.) A.Sapsai; Candidate of Political Sciences (Ph.D.) R.Petiur; Candidate of Political Sciences, Postgraduate Student O.Opanasiuk; Candidate of Political Science, Postgraduate Student K.Kuznetsova.
Training courses were established at the Department, the main task of which was to train international specialists who are well acquainted with global trends in international relations and global development, researchers of theoretical and practical problems related to modern trends in global governance, international cooperation and diplomatic work. The Department of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service continues to develop the best traditions in teaching methods at the Institute of International Relations of the theoretical and applied aspects of the work of a diplomat, clearly complying with modern educational requirements currently facing the higher school.
The main activities of the Department of International Organizations and the Diplomatic Service include educational and methodological, research, educational and vocational guidance, as well as the development of international relations (participation in international scientific and practical conferences, etc.).
The main attention of the Department's staff is focused on providing the educational process at a high professional level (giving lectures, conducting seminars, workshops and master classes), prepare educational and methodical complexes (curricula, textbooks, manuals, handbooks) relating to the teaching of various theoretical and practical aspects of diplomatic work.
The members of the Department actively follow modern events in international life, conduct in-depth research, prepare reviews and feedbacks, provide expert assessments on the development of modern diplomacy in general, as well as individual aspects of diplomatic work, in particular diplomatic protocol and etiquette, the practice of diplomatic negotiations, etc. The department studies and interpretations of the peculiarities of the development of domestic diplomacy and diplomatic service in the context of modern trends in international relations and world politics are noteworthy.
The lecturers of the Departments deliver lectures abroad and actively participate in international academic conferences. The department successfully trains postgraduate students.
Much attention at the department is paid to educational and career guidance work with students. Tutors of the department are actively involved in extracurricular activities with students (organization of student circles and clubs, visiting foreign diplomatic missions and offices of international organizations in Ukraine, etc.).
