International scientific relations

One of the directions for training of highly qualified experts in European law is wide international cooperation. To this end, the Chair has already established and maintains contacts in the academic and scientific spheres with the Polish (the University of Wrocław, the University of Zielona Góra, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, University of Białystok), Lithuanian (Kazimieras Simonavičius University), Italian (University of Turin), German (Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel, Regensburg University), Czech (Masaryk University, Palacký University Olomouc) Universities.

Special attention of the Chair staff is focused on the development of international cooperation in the framework of projects on double diplomas, activation of foreign publications and internships in leading scientific and academic institutions of the world. In this direction, the teaching staff of the Chair actively cooperates with the International Relations Department of the Institute.

In 2019, for the first time in the history of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the IIR team with the participation of Chair staff members - Prof. Kseniia V. Smyrnova and Assoc. Prof. Olena V. Sviatun won the competition for the creation of the Jean Monet Center of Excellence within the framework of the Erasmus + program of the European Union at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

In 2019, an agreement was signed on the cooperation of the ES Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with Kazimieras Simonavičius University (Vilnius, Lithuania) on the introduction of a double degree program in the English-language master's program "European Business Law". In January 2023, the second graduation of masters under this cooperation program took place.

As part of the cooperation of the Alliance of European Universities EUniWell (European University for Well-Being), of which Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is a member, from March 24 to 31, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Olena V. Sviatun together with a team of female students of the 3rd year of the "International Law" specialty of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations visited the University of Murcia (Kingdom of Spain). The purpose of the visit was the participation of the students in the 1st EU Law Moot Court (EUniWell Moot Court). In general, teams from UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, and France participated in the competition. According to the results of these competitions, the Taras Shevchenko National University team reached the semi-finals, losing to the team of finalists from the University of Nantes (France).

The high scientific and professional level of the Chair’s staff is acknowledged by the international organizations to involve them as experts and elect them as direct members. Thus, on March 29, 2023, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe elected a new member of the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR). For the first time, it was a representative of Ukraine — Alla L. Fedorova., Doctor of Jurisprudence, Assoc. Prof. of the Chair.

June 2023, one of the joint projects of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Palacký University Olomouc (Czech Republic) was approved. As part of the project in the field of administrative law, joint lectures, workshops, as well as joint scientific articles in a Czech journal indexed in SCOPUS are planned between the Chair of administrative law of the Faculty of Law of the Palacký University Olomouc and the Chair of Comparative and European Law (Assoc. Prof. Olha V. Honcharuk).

Students of the 4th year of the Educational programme "International Law" Sofia Yermolenko, Hryhorii Turshukov, Bohdana Cherniak and Bohdana Marchenko participated in the 2nd round of EUniWell Moot Court on EU law held as part of the cooperation of the EUniWell Alliance of European Universities (European University for Well-Being) of which Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is a member, held March 18 and 19, 2024 at the University of Birmingham (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). In general, 6 teams from the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and France took part in the competition. According to the results of these competitions, the Taras Shevchenko EaS IIR KNU team reached the third place. The team was coached by Olena Sviatun, Associate Professor of the Chair.

April 4, 2024, joint lectures series by academics of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and the University of Santo Tomas (Bogotá, Colombia) was launched dedicated to the protection of human rights during armed conflicts and the further restoration of the functioning of state mechanisms in the legal field .The first lecture "European anti-corruption mechanisms as key factor of Ukraine's candidacy status for EU membership " was held by Olena Sviatun, Associate Professor of the Chair.
