International scientific relations

The department maintains continuous and mutually productive relations with several foreign academic and educational institutions researching in the field of international relations. The closest ties have been developed with the Polish Institute of International Relations, the Free University of Brussels (Belgium), the London School of Economics, the University of North London (both from the UK), the Institute of Political Science, the French Institute of International Relations, the University of Nancy (all from France). Scholars of the department took part in internship programs and presented reports, and lectures in leading research and educational institutions of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Ethiopia, Iran, Spain, Italy, Canada, China, Cuba, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland Russia, USA, Hungary, France, Croatia, and other countries. For instance, Professor V.A.Manzhola was invited to give lectures at the University of Paris-2, the Institute of Political Science (Paris, France), the Free University of Brussels (Belgium), the Royal Institute of International Affairs "The Chatham House" (UK), the London School of Economics; Professor O.A. Koppel at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran; Professor S.P. Galaka at the University of Berkeley, the Monterey Institute for International Studies (both in USA). The Associate Professor I.O.Mingazutdinov gave a course of lectures on the foreign policy of Ukraine at the Diplomatic Academy of China; since 1997 the Associate Professor M.S.Kamenetsky has been lecturing at the University of Zagreb; the Associate Professor M.G.Kapitonenko conducted courses in conflict studies at the University of Iowa (USA).

In September 2019, the Institute of International Relations provided for the implementation of the ERASMUS + Project the "Advanced Development of European Studies in Ukraine: Interdisciplinary Approach", which led to the establishment of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, whose experts became the Associate Professor Mironova M.A. and the Associate Professor Makovsky S.O. The main goal of this project is to promote the development of educational and scientific activities, improve the teaching process, and exchange views and experiences on the functioning of the EU in economics, politics, law, and media communications. As result, in 2021 the following events were held: a training seminar for teachers and scholars on "Foreign Policy and Communications in the EU" (April 17-24, 2021), an international scientific-practical conference on "Fundamental pragmatism of the EU: implications for Eastern and Southern -Eastern Europe "(Kyiv, May 21-22, 2021).

The department was a leading partner of the "EU Foreign Policy: Experience and Contribution of the Visegrad Group" project under the "Visegrad Four - Eastern Partnership: University Research Grants" program of the International Visegrad Fund (2015-2018). Based on the educational program in "International Relations" for master’s degree students the following lecture courses were offered by academicians from partner universities of the Visegrad Four:

• Prof. Andrzej Szeptycki, Institute of International Relations (“Polish Foreign and European Policy”)
• Prof. Peter Marton, Institute of International Relations, Corvinus University, Budapest, Hungary ("Hungarian Foreign and European Policy").
   

Within the cooperation with the Yakemtchuk Foundation (Belgium), the "European Studies" educational program was launched during the 2017-2019 semesters and provided for the master’s degree students to attend lectures by scholars from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium):

• Prof. Bernard Cooley (Rector of the Catholic University of Leuven in 2004-2009) - a course of lectures on "Heritage and Identity in Europe"
• Prof. Vincent Dujardin (Director of the Institute for European Studies, Catholic University of Leuven) - lecture course under the title "From the Schuman Plan to the Euro Crisis: The Institutional Framework in the EU"
• Prof. Bernard Snow (Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development 1994-2002) - lecture course on "Economic and Monetary Challenges in Europe"
• Prof. Jean De Rey (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, former Representative of the Kingdom of Belgium to the EU and NATO) - lecture course titled “EU Foreign Policy”
• Prof. Luke Van Midelaar (author of the monograph "Transition to Europe: how the continent became a union") - a course of lectures on "Leadership in the EU: Institutional Aspects".
