On 28 March 2026, the national language standard ‘Ukrainian Spelling’ came into force

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced that, as of 28 March 2026, the state language standard ‘Ukrainian Spelling’, approved by Decision No. 47 of the National Commission on State Language Standards dated 1 March 2026, has come into force.

In accordance with Article 44(2) of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language’, the decisions of the National Commission on State Language Standards are binding throughout the territory of Ukraine.

The new spelling rules apply in all areas of public life as defined by law.
