On 24 April 2025, Mykola Kapitonenko wrote an article for the IPG Journal entitled ‘No Peace (yet)’, in which he analysed the prospects of US President Donald Trump's peace plan in the context of US-Russian and Ukrainian-American relations.

‘If events continue to develop in the same direction, the most likely scenario is that the war will continue and turn into another summer and autumn campaign. Ukraine will face the difficult consequences of aid cuts, and Russia will face possible risks of mobilisation. It is likely that both sides will cope with these problems, albeit with difficulty, and thus there will be little reason to expect a new attempt at negotiations closer to winter.’
