The Chief Operating Officer at "The Kyiv Independent" conducted a master class in the ES IIR.

On October 18, 2023, Zakhar Protsiuk, the Chief Operating Officer at "The Kyiv Independent" media outlet and an alumnus of ES IIR, conducted a master class for fourth-year students specializing in "international media communications" as part of the "International Media Communications" course within the "International Communications" educational program.

During the session, Mr. Protsiuk shared the history of the English-language media outlet's inception, outlined the financing model of "The Kyiv Independent," discussed the significant challenges encountered during its nearly two-year existence, and emphasized the role it plays in reporting on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the actions of the Russian army, and the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people. He also revealed some "editorial secrets" and presented both successful and unsuccessful cases of media management, offering a concise analysis of the lessons learned. He encouraged students to pursue knowledge more thoroughly and persistently.

Professor Serhii Danylenko moderated the discussion, which took place in a hybrid format with both in-person and online student participation.

Following Zakhar Protsiuk's lecture, participants had the opportunity to pose questions, leading to a discussion on topics like self-censorship, various aspects of outlet financing, the structure of "The Kyiv Independent," and the challenges faced by Ukrainian media and investigative journalism in the wake of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
