Conference «The Holocaust and mass atrocities: comparing to single out»
About 70 students attended a series of intensive trainings on the topic of honouring the памʼяті victims of the Holocaust and other genocides for two days.
On September 18, the speakers told the participants about the past and present of anti-Semitism, Nazi ideology and decisions to eradicate it, falsification of history in the context of Russian-Ukrainian aggression in 2022, and Ukraine during the Nazi occupation. Students also took part in the debate on the topic of the discussed issues.
The end of the active day was a visit to Babi Yar, where the speakers told in more detail about the creation and significance of monuments and memorable signs dedicated to honouring the памʼяті of victims of genocide.
The topic of conversation on September 19 was the legal and historical concepts of mass killings, the Holodomor, the genocide of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, which is taking place today, and an example of mass atrocities in the 21st century in Syria.
The last task of the participants at the conference was to analyze the conclusions and recommendations of the UN Human Rights Committee resolution on the massacres of Yazidis in Iraq.
