February 2009
Together with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine and the "Intercultural" World Caravan, an international symposium of heads of organizations from among Ukrainians abroad was held under the theme "Peace as a goal, culture as a means. We are creating peace-making Ukrainian cultural centres abroad." The purpose of the event is to develop a plan to build an artistic, peacemaking, and informational foundation for the opening of peacemaking Ukrainian cultural centres abroad.

Together with Kinomania, the exclusive distributor of Warner Brothers films in Ukraine, a long-term project has been launched to popularize the screening of films in the original language. The campaign is supported by the department of foreign languages of the institute.
April 2009
On April 9, 2009, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Council of Europe Representation in Ukraine held an international scientific conference "60th anniversary of the Council of Europe: understanding achievements and prospects of activities in the 21st century."
April 8-11, 2009 as part of the "Days of Comparative Jurisprudence in Kyiv" event with the participation of the Department of International Law and the Department of Comparative and European Law of the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko Scientific Conference "Comparative Readings" and IV International Scientific Seminar "Comparative Jurisprudence: Current State and Prospects of Development" were held.
On April 22, 2009, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University held the Second Scientific and Practical Conference of Young Scientists "Modern Communication Technologies: Theory, Practice, Ukrainian Realities."
From April 24 to May 3, 2009, following the Cooperation Agreement between the Nicolaus Copernicus University (Institute of International Relations - Department of Historical Sciences, Toruń, Republic of Poland) and the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, a scientific internship was held for students from the speciality " International relations", "International economic relations", and "International information".
Holidays were organized in homes for the elderly together with children from UNESCO-associated schools.
A competition of poetry readers was held, which aims to support young poets of the IIR.
Cooperation with the World Caravan "Intercultural" in holding the All-Ukrainian "Linguistic Festival" and the international festival of languages "Ecology of Communication", which stimulates interest in the history of one's kind, nation, respect for cultural traditions and introduces the linguistic and cultural traditions of neighbouring countries.
May 2009
On May 13, as part of the "Europe Day" celebration, students of the Institute of International Relations of our university met with the Ambassadors of the EU countries: Mr Ronald Keller, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Netherlands to Ukraine, Mr Jacques Faure, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Ukraine, Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Poland in Ukraine by Mr Leszek Sherepka and Representative of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Ukraine Ake Petersen.
Representatives of the Embassy of France in Ukraine presented to the IIR Library 430 copies of books on political and legal topics published in France in recent years.
In the last days of May, guests from the Kingdom of Sweden were in Kyiv. On May 29, they came to the IIR - the speaker of the Swedish parliament - Riksdag - Per Westerberg and other representatives of the parliament.
Within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, the Ukrainian State Center for Extracurricular Education and the Information and Creative Agency "Youn-Press" was IV all-Ukrainian action "Heart to heart" charitable assistance to visually impaired children was held.
June 2009
On June 16, 2009, a meeting of the Academic Council of the Institute of International Relations was held under the chairmanship of the Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University named after L.V. Huberskyi, dedicated to the election of a new director of the Institute. According to the results of a secret vote of all members of the Academic Council, Dr Kopiyka Valeriy, Doctor of Political Sciences, was unanimously elected Director of the Institute.
Participation in the All-Ukrainian charity project of the S. Vakarchuk Foundation "People of the future" "With a book - to children!", within the framework of the social initiative "The book creates a person - a person creates a country". Together with the department of foreign languages and the foundation of S. Vakarchuk, children's books were collected to create a library in the orphanage. On World Children's Day, June 1, volunteer groups in different parts of the country simultaneously handed over the collected books to the libraries of orphanages.
On June 25, 2009, the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations, the research group of the Department of the Ministry of Economy, the Ukrainian Association of International Economists, the Academy of Sciences of the Higher School of Ukraine held a round table "Actual issues of migration and visa relations between Ukraine and the EU".
September 2009
On September 5, 2009, with the assistance of the "DEK" agency, the Institute of International Relations of KNU hosted a lecture by Professor Chris Auld, at one of the main business schools in Australia - Griffith Business School. The lecture was devoted to the influence of global sports events on the country's economy as particularly relevant for Ukraine. The lecture was given to students of the "international economic relations" department.
On September 7, 2009, with the support of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University hosted a lecture by Dr Eckart Stratenschulte, professor of the Free University of Berlin, head of the European Academy, "The Eastern Vector of EU Partnership - Chances and Prospects for Ukraine" for students of the 4 courses of the department "international relations" and "international information".
On September 8, 2009, the Speaker of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, Peter Milliken, met with the teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.
On September 8, 2009, with the assistance of the US Embassy in Ukraine, the Institute of International Relations of KNU hosted a lecture by American University professor James Thurber. The lecture was devoted to an overview of the policy of regulating the budget process in the USA and was read for students of the "international business" department.
On September 21, 2009, the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University was visited by a delegation of representatives of the Joint Project (JV) within the framework of TEMPUS IV "Means for ensuring the quality of internationalization management".
October 2009
From October 7 to 18, 2009, at the Institute of International Relations, an exhibition of posters "From Peaceful Revolution to German Unity" of the Federal Foundation for the Study of the Consequences of Dictatorship (STAUFARB) in cooperation with the non-profit Herty Foundation with the friendly support of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany is on display. Republic of Germany in Ukraine. The exhibition is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
On October 7, 2009, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe elected Mykola Hnatovsky, deputy director of the Institute of International Relations for academic work, associate professor of the Department of International Law, as a member of the European Committee on Prevention of Torture or Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment from Ukraine.
On October 9, 2009, the Institute of International Relations held a meeting with the participants of the 55th General Assembly of the Atlantic Treaty Association: the Chairman of the Euro-Atlantic Association of the Republic of Poland, former Vice-President of the European Parliament (Foreign Affairs Committee) Janusz Oniskiewicz and the Vice-President of the Italian Atlantic Treaty Association Anton Giulio de Robertis.
On October 20, in the Great Assembly Hall of the Institute of International Relations, the university-wide competition "What? Where? When?" among university students. The competition was dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Kyiv National University. Teams from various faculties and institutes took part in the competition. The event was held in two rounds, 30 questions were played together, and according to the results, the team of the Institute of International Relations - "Gluk" won. The winning team received gift editions of books published for the 175th anniversary of the university, and an owl - a symbol of wisdom and the game "What? Where? When?". The owl will move from team to team based on the results of the games that are scheduled to be held each semester.
On October 23, 2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine hosted the Model UN Security Council, dedicated to the celebration of the 175th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and the 60th anniversary of the United Nations. The topic of the meeting was the fight against sea piracy. The event was attended by 50 students, 40 of whom are students of the Institute of International Relations.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine O.O. Horin, representatives of the UN Department and other international organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, as well as the UN Mission in Ukraine, addressed the participants of the Conference with welcoming words.
On October 29, 2009, the International Scientific and Theoretical Conference "Dynamics of EU-NATO Relations: Place and Prospects of Ukraine" was held at the Institute of International Relations. It was dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, the 65th anniversary of the Institute of International Relations and the Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy of this Institute. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the peculiarities of the relations between the EU, NATO in the modern world, as well as their influence on Ukrainian foreign policy.
In October 2009, on the initiative of the Department of International Organizations and the Diplomatic Service, as part of the celebration of the 64th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, the Permanent Coordinator of the UN System in Ukraine, Mr Olivier Adam, paid a visit to the Institute of Foreign Studies.
December 2009
On December 9, 2009, a debate was held at the Institute of International Relations with the assistance of the American Institute in Ukraine on the topic: "Ukraine and European security: priorities for the next president". Postgraduate students and students of the Institute were visited by: Anthony Salvia (Director of the American Institute in Ukraine), James George Jatras (Deputy Director of the American Institute in Ukraine), Dr Taras Kuzio (University of Toronto) and Oleksandr Sushko (Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation).
On December 11, 2009, the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the "International Relations and Foreign Policy" department took place in the large assembly hall of the Institute of International Relations.
On December 11-13, 2009, the Third international mini-football tournament among international student teams "Cup of Future Diplomats" was held in Kyiv.
On December 22, 2009, the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek met with professors, graduate students and students of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. During the visit, Jerzy Buzek noted that the EU and the European Parliament pay special attention to relations with Ukraine. Mr Buzek reminded that his visit is already the second visit of the President of the European Parliament to Ukraine this year. Ukraine is one of the first foreign countries visited by Jerzy Buzek as President of the European Parliament.
