The Head of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations spoke at a round-table discussion on Ukraine’s European integration

On 9 June 2026, Oleksandr Ivanovych Shnyrkov, Head of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations at the Educational and Research Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Doctor of Economics and Professor, took part in and spoke at the round table discussion ‘Ukraine’s Movement Towards the EU: External Challenges and Internal Problems’, which took place at the Interfax-Ukraine agency.

The event was organised by the Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Razumkov Centre, with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation. During the round table, a presentation was given on an analytical study prepared by experts from the Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, focusing on current aspects of Ukraine’s progress towards full membership of the European Union.

In his speech, Professor Oleksandr Shnyrkov drew attention to the current economic aspects of Ukraine’s European integration, emphasising the importance of strengthening the competitiveness of the national economy, adapting to EU norms and standards, and making effective use of the opportunities opened up by the process of acquiring membership of the European Union.

Participants in the discussion addressed the impact of current international developments on Ukraine’s European integration course, security aspects of cooperation between Kyiv and Brussels, as well as the domestic challenges facing the state in the context of implementing necessary reforms and fulfilling commitments on the path to EU membership.

The round table was attended by representatives of government bodies, academic institutions, civil society organisations and the expert community, which facilitated a professional discussion on the prospects for Ukraine’s further integration into the European political and economic space.
