IIR Legal Brain Cup – an Intellectual Tournament for Law Students

турнір

The Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv invites first–third year students of the specialties Law, Law Enforcement Activity, and International Lawfrom higher education institutions of Ukraine to participate in the IIR Legal Brain Cup intellectual tournament

The aim of the competition is to assess the level of students’ theoretical preparation, develop logical thinking, the ability to conduct legal analysis and argumentation, and to foster skills in public speaking and professional legal discussion. Particular attention in the tournament is devoted to fundamental legal disciplines: the theory of state and law, the history of state and law, and the history of political and legal doctrines, which form the intellectual foundation of legal education. These disciplines enable future lawyers to better understand the nature of legal phenomena, the evolution of state institutions, and the development of legal ideas that underpin modern legal systems.

The tournament is conducted in an individual format and includes several intellectual rounds combining tasks on knowledge of key legal concepts, historical and legal orientation, logical reasoning, and the ability to work with legal categories. Some stages of the competition are designed to assess participants’ rhetorical and argumentative skills, where students must formulate a legal position and present it persuasively. Based on the results of the initial rounds, a ranking of participants is formed, after which the best contestants advance to the final stage, where performances are evaluated by a jury composed of law professors and practicing lawyers

Holding such intellectual competitions contributes to the promotion of fundamental legal education, the development of a culture of legal argumentation, and the formation of an academic environment focused on a deep understanding of law.
