The Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv team has made it into the top four teams in the world at the prestigious International and European Tax Moot Court Competition!

The university-wide team consisted of:

  • Sofia Savanchuk (2nd year, ‘International Law’ programme);
  • Leonid Tysak (3rd year, ‘Law’ programme);
  • Daria Yakovchuk (4th year, ‘Law’ programme)

It is particularly pleasing to note that the team included Sofia Savanchuk, a second-year student on the ‘International Law’ programme at the Institute of International and European Law

The competition took place from 29 March to 2 April 2026 in Leuven

The team confidently progressed through all stages of the competition, reached the semi-finals and secured an honourable 4th place. The competition was organised by KU Leuven in collaboration with the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD)

The team was coached by Viktoria Antyuk — a tax lawyer with over three years’ experience in international taxation, who is currently pursuing an LL.M. in International Tax Law at Lund University — and team advisor Viktoria Solodko

Participation in the competition required intensive preparation and in-depth analysis of complex issues in international tax law. This year’s case covered complex legal aspects, including issues of royalties, fees for technical services and abuse of rights.

During the oral hearings, the team demonstrated a high level of legal argumentation and oratory skills, competing admirably against the strongest teams from around the world

Financial support for the team was provided by the Development Fund of the Institute of International Relations.

We are proud of our students, who are achieving brilliant results at an international level, and wish them further professional achievements and victories!
