Lecture By Liubov Abravitova, Director Of The Department of Africa And Regional African Organizations of The MFA of Ukraine
As part of a series of educational and practical events involving leading diplomats from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on October 23, 2026, a guest online lecture was held with the Director of the Department of Africa and Regional African Organizations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ms. Liubov ABRAVITOVA.
The event was organized with the support of the Department of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service for second-year undergraduate students of the "Area Studies" study program within the course "International Organizations" (taught by Assistant Professor Serhii AVERIANOV).
Topic of the meeting: “The Role and Specifics of International and Regional African Organizations in Modern Geopolitical Conditions and Cooperation with Ukraine.”
During the lecture, Liubov ABRAVITOVA highlighted key areas of Ukraine's foreign policy on the African continent, the strategic importance of developing bilateral and multilateral relations, and practical aspects of interaction with key regional integration bodies.
Key Highlights of the Event:
African Regional Integration: The speaker detailed the structure, decision-making mechanisms, and role of the African Union (AU) as well as sub-regional organizations (ECOWAS, SADC, EAC, etc.) in ensuring peace, security, and economic development across the continent.
Multilateral Diplomacy and Support for Ukraine: Special attention was paid to the work of Ukrainian diplomacy in promoting Ukraine's initiatives within African regional platforms, UN voting dynamics, and countering Russian influence in the region.
Diplomatic Practice: The diplomat shared her extensive practical experience representing Ukraine's interests in Africa, highlighting the nuances of intercultural communication and the specifics of conducting negotiations with representatives of African states.
The format of the event allowed for an active discussion, during which students had the opportunity to ask questions regarding the prospects of expanding Ukraine's diplomatic presence in Africa, economic and humanitarian cooperation, as well as the specifics of regional studies.
