Рилач

As part of the course “Economic Diplomacy” (taught by PhD in Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service N. Rylach), an online meeting was held between first-year Master’s students of the International Relations program and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Australia and New Zealand, alumnus of our Institute, Vasyl Volodymyrovych Myroshnychenko.

During the lecture, the Ambassador addressed the following thematic areas:

  • theoretical foundations of economic, trade, and commercial diplomacy;
  • practical aspects of attracting international investment and supporting Ukrainian exporters;
  • issues of national branding;
  • the link between economic diplomacy and national security.

Particular attention was given to the specifics of diplomatic work in Australia, including the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement between Ukraine and Australia, перспективні напрями двосторонньої співпраці (promising areas of bilateral cooperation), and the instruments of economic diplomacy.

A key practical component of the Ambassador’s work is advocacy and lobbying for Ukraine’s interests. “Today, this primarily means maximizing international support through high-level meetings, engagement with the media, building alliances of support, and cooperating with influential partners,” the Ambassador noted.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive professional advice on building a career in the diplomatic field.
