On 8 October 2026, Professor Oleksandr  Shnyrkov, Head of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations at the Institute of International Relations and International Economics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, took part in the round table ‘Ukraine–EU: Status, Challenges and Prospects of a New Stage of European Integration’ as a co-author of a research paper devoted to topical issues of Ukraine’s European integration.

The event took place at the ‘Ukrinform’ news agency and was organised by the Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Razumkov Centre, with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

During the round-table discussion, an analytical study prepared by experts from the Public Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, was presented. The study served as the basis for an expert discussion on the current state of Ukrainian-European relations, the key obstacles on Ukraine’s path to the EU, and the prospects for further deepening European integration processes.

The main topics of discussion were Ukraine’s progress towards the European Union in the context of global processes and external influences, security factors in the partnership between Kyiv and Brussels, as well as the achievements, problems and challenges of the new phase of European integration. Representatives of government bodies, civil society organisations, the academic community and the expert community took part in the discussion.

Professor Oleksandr Ivanovych Shnyrkov’s co-authorship of the academic report attests to the contribution made by academics from the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations to research into pressing issues of European integration and to the development of a scientific and analytical foundation for understanding the strategic prospects of Ukraine’s relations with the European Union.
