Participation of Olena Zaitseva, lawyer, expert on gender equality and inclusion, in the course ‘Gender Issues in International Law’

On 11 April 2025, Olena Zaitseva, a lawyer and expert on gender equality and inclusion, a graduate of the Institute, joined the class of the course ‘Gender Issues in International Law’, which is taught in the first year of the master's degree as part of the elective block ‘International Protection of Human Rights’, a member of the Public Council at the IFO ‘Equal Opportunities’ of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Coalition ‘1325 Kyiv’, a trainer on gender analysis, prevention of discrimination and human trafficking, co-author of the course on the Prometheus platform ‘Equality of Women and Men in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Policy and Practice’, which cooperates with international organisations, embassies and government agencies in these areas.

With the participation of Ms Olena, the student group discussed the issues of gender discrimination and gender-based violence on the basis of three important cases considered by the European Court of Human Rights. The students were given the opportunity to put themselves in the shoes of the ECtHR judges and independently decide whether there were violations of the European Convention on Human Rights.
