Practical training for students on diplomatic protocol and etiquette

On 29 May 2024, a practical lesson was held at the Institute of International Relations for 2nd year students of the International Relations programme in the discipline "Diplomatic Protocol and Etiquette" (lecturer - Associate Professor of the Department of International Organisations and Diplomatic Service Roman Petiur).

The practical session on "Diplomatic Reception" was organised and conducted by the lecturers of the Department of International Organisations and Diplomatic Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine Viacheslav Hryhorovych Tsivatyi and Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Roman Kostiantynovych Petiur.

As part of the class, students had the opportunity to work out a number of behavioural models used in modern diplomatic practice, in particular, in the format of a diplomatic reception, namely:
rules of business appearance;
greeting the hosts and participants of the event;
making toasts and congratulations;
getting to know each other and exchanging business cards;
rules of table etiquette at receptions with and without seating;
etiquette of a guest and participant of a solemn diplomatic event.

More than 40 students showed interest and took part in the practical lesson, which took place in the special "Polish Hall" of the School of International Relations. Prior to the class in the Polish Hall, Viacheslav Tsivatyi held a classroom express lesson on the basics of diplomatic etiquette and rules of conduct at diplomatic receptions.

Many thanks to the staff of the Catering Centre of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, who provided the tables and decorated the Polish Hall at a high professional level. As a result, the students were able to find themselves for several hours in a real solemn environment of a diplomatic reception with all its attributes.
