Round table on personal data protection reform in Ukraine

On 19 March 2025, the Educational and Research Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted an important event - a roundtable discussion ‘Personal Data Protection Reform in Ukraine as a Key Factor in Ukraine's Integration into the EU Digital Single Market’.

The event was organised by: The Educational and Research Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights and the NGO ‘UA Experts’. 

The event was attended by MPs, representatives of state institutions, international experts, academics and civil society activists, as well as students of Ukrainian higher education institutions, who discussed key aspects of the reform: draft laws No. 8153 and No. 6177, which are necessary to harmonise Ukrainian legislation with the GDPR and Convention 108+, challenges and prospects for monitoring compliance with personal data legislation, and the impact of the reform on Ukraine's integration into the EU's Digital Single Market.

  • Serhiy Nizhynskyi - Head of the NGO ‘UA Experts’, Advisor to the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration - Minister of Justice of Ukraine

The main panel discussion ‘Personal Data Protection Reform in Ukraine’ included the following speakers:

  • Levchenko Larysa - Director of the Central State Archive of Higher Authorities and Governance of Ukraine, Doctor of History, Professor of the Department of History, Member of the IFAP (UNESCO) National Committee

  • Burmahin Oleksandr - member of the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting, media lawyer

  • Poturaiev Mykyta - Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy

  • Siryk Oleksandr - Head of the sector for organisation of work on personal data protection of the Department of the Main Inspection and Human Rights of the National Police of Ukraine

The event was moderated by Yulia Derkachenko, Representative of the Commissioner for Information Rights of the Secretariat of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
