Scientific and expert round table on the 60th anniversary of the Organization of African Unity/African Union

On November 27, 2023, the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv hosted a scientific and expert round table on the topic "Africa in modern international relations," which was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity/African Union.

The event was initiated by the public organization "Center for International Security" (as part of the launch of the African Studies program) and organized in cooperation with the participants of the "African Seminar" project of the Department of International Regional Studies of the National University of Taras Shevchenko.

Congratulatory appeals to the participants of the scientific and expert event were addressed by the Deputy Director for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the National Research University of Kyiv named after Taras Shevchenko, Ph.D., Associate Professor Anton Nanavov, Head of the Department of International Regional Studies of the National Research University of Kyiv named after Taras Shevchenko, Ph.D., Prof. Mykola Doroshko and director of the public organization "Center for International Security" Oleksandr Davymuk.

The participants and speakers of the round table were teachers, graduate students and students of the specialized departments of IIR and NAUKMA, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the NGO "Center for Applied Research."

The speeches of the speakers of the round table were devoted to a wide range of issues on the integration agenda within the framework of the African Union and the organization's position on topical issues of our time, the evolution of Pan-African ideology, the place of the African Union in the modern system of international relations, in particular its relations with the EU, USA, China, etc.

As a result of the round table, a collection of reports is planned to be published.

Given the need to comply with safety measures, in connection with the air alarm, the event was interrupted. The second part of the event is scheduled to be held in a remote format on the Zoom platform on December 4, 2023.

For reference

The African Seminar project was launched by the Department of International Regional Studies in 2008. The seminar includes lectures, round tables, conferences, meetings on topical issues of African studies and political and socio-economic development of African countries. The events of the seminar are held with the involvement of diplomatic missions of African states accredited in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and non-governmental organizations.
