January 2011

Candidate of Economic Sciences, Assistant Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations of the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, O. A. Chugaev, released the study guide "Currency Integration in the European Union".

 

On January 10-11, 2011, the World Bank held a two-day meeting of the ICR Task Force at its headquarters in Washington, DC. In his speech, Oleksandr Biryukov (Associate Professor of the Department of International Private Law of the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) informed the participants of the event about the state of reforming bankruptcy legislation in Ukraine and shared his vision for the implementation of consumer bankruptcy procedures in this country.

 

According to the information of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the Council of Europe, on January 12, 2011, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in two rounds of voting elected an associate professor of the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of Kyiv National University named after T.G. Shevchenko, Doctor of Law O. Butkevich, a member of the Advisory Committee of the Framework Convention on the Protection of National Minorities.

 

The Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv sincerely congratulates Valeriy Ivanovich Mazurenko, Associate Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations, with the award of the Doctor of Economic Sciences degree in the speciality "World Economy and International Economic Relations".

 

February 2011

On February 15, 2011, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv awarded master's degrees to its graduates. On this solemn day, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, graduates of the Institute Hennadiy Yosypovych Udovenko and Volodymyr Stanislavovych Ogryzko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Viktor Anatoliyovych Maiko, Advisor to the President of Ukraine, General of the Army Mykola Hryhorovych Malomuzh were the guests of honour of the Institute. The management of the institute, heads of departments, and members of the Academic Council were present at the ceremonial meeting dedicated to the awarding of master's diplomas. In addition, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other ministries and departments, representatives of the diplomatic corps, parents and relatives of our graduates were present at the celebration.

 

On February 15, 2011, on the occasion of World Cancer Day, a Memorandum was signed between the National Cancer Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and partners in the campaign on cooperation in overcoming cancer in the premises of the Main Educational Building of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.

 

On February 18-19, 2011, the National Round of the International Court Debate Competition on the Law of the World Trade Organization was held on the premises of the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy".

 

On February 25, 2011, Professor Vytautas Landsbergis, Member of the European Parliament, and Speaker of the Parliament of Lithuania (1990-1992), visited the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, together with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Pietras Vaitekunas and Director of the Institute of World Politics Alyona Hetmanchuk.

 

On February 28, 2011, students of the Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National Institute had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by a representative of a world-famous company, one of the "Big Four" auditing companies of the world - KPMG. Yulia Nogovitska, senior manager of the tax and legal department of KPMG in Ukraine, a graduate of the Institute of International Relations, presented a lecture to students on the topic "Traditional mechanisms of repatriation of profits from Ukraine". Students were very interested in the material presented during the lecture, as it was aimed at getting acquainted with the practical aspect of tax law, and the mechanisms of tax law application both in Ukraine and internationally.

 

March 2011

On March 2, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle met with teachers and students of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. The distinguished guest shared his views on the relations between Germany and Ukraine, the European choice of Ukraine and called on the young generation to study fruitfully and expand contacts with German colleagues. Members of the "Ambassador" Political and Diplomatic Club of the IIR took an active part in the event. The students showed impeccable command of the German language and asked many interesting questions to the distinguished guest.

 

On March 10, at the initiative of the UNESCO Youth Foundation, a Ukrainian song contest was held at the Institute of International Relations. The contest date is not accidental, because it is dedicated to Shevchenko Days. The purpose of the event is to determine the interest of young people in national culture, namely the Ukrainian song, as well as the demonstration of the best result in the competition.

 

On March 18, 2011, the Institute of International Relations of Tars Shevchenko Kyiv National University was visited by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine K.I. Hryshchenko. Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University L.V. Hubersky also became a distinguished guest of the Institute on this day. and about 60 representatives of embassies and international organizations, who, together with teachers, graduate students and students of the Institute, had the opportunity to listen to the Minister of Foreign Affairs lecture on the topic: "Ukraine: from a post-Soviet to a European country". Mr Hryshchenko K.I. in his class covered all the issues that are relevant today on the world stage. He began his speech with an expression of sympathy for the situation in Japan, touched on the Libyan issue and went on to review the main vectors of Ukraine's foreign policy. Mr Minister emphasized the need for a multi-vector policy and the development of relations with partners in various directions, emphasizing the primary importance of European integration.

 

On March 18, 2011, at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the Department of International Information held the second international conference "International Information Security Modern Concepts and Practices" with the assistance of the GUAM Representative Office, the NATO Information and Documentation Center, the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Institute of Foreign Policy, Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Institute of Euro-Atlantic Cooperation.

 

On March 21, the world celebrates International Poetry Day. This date is determined by UNESCO, so in our Institute, the UNESCO Youth Foundation could not be indifferent. And for the third year in a row, students who love poetry have the opportunity to show it and compete in various nominations. This year there were three of them - Ukrainian, foreign and authors.

 

On March 23, 2011, the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and the Ukrainian Association of International Law held the second international law reading. A scientific report was presented by Olga Volodymyrivna Butkevich, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of International Law, on the topic "History of International Law as a Scientific Field and Educational Discipline: Contemporary Problems and Prospects." The international legal readings were attended by outstanding Ukrainian theoreticians and practitioners of international law, representatives of leading universities, in particular, the National Law Academy of Ukraine named after Yaroslav the Wise (Doctor of Law, Prof. M.V. Buromenskyi), the National University of the State Tax Service of Ukraine (Doctor of Law, Prof. L.D. Timchenko), National Aviation University (Prof. V.F. Antipenko), Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Prof. L.O. Timchenko, Prof. A.S. Macko).

 

March 29, 2011, a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Ukraine Ms Nining Suningsih Rokhadiat took place at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. The Ambassador met with the Director of the Institute of International Relations V.V. Kopiyka and spoke to the students of the Institute. Ms Rokhadiat's speech covered issues of the development of democracy in Indonesia, the main areas of activity of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, as well as relations between Indonesia and Ukraine. Ms Ambassador's speech was very interesting and informative for the students, considering the development experience of Indonesia, which is useful for international students.

 

On March 30, Mark Polins, an employee of the US government (Environmental Protection Agency), gave a lecture at the Institute of International Relations.

 

April 2011

On April 1, 2011, the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and the Ukrainian Association of International Law held a round table "International Criminal Law: Problems of Development, Research and Teaching". Representatives of many leading universities of Ukraine, including Lviv National University, took part in the round table: Ivan Franko University, National University "Odesa Law Academy", National University of the State Tax Service of Ukraine, Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, University of Economics and Law "KROK".

 

On April 13, 2011, a meeting was held with the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Mrs Rasa Yukniavychene and her colleagues at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. The Minister met with the Director of the Institute of International Relations, Professor V.V. Kopiyka and spoke to the students of the Institute. The main topic of her speech was Lithuania's experience on the way to European integration and NATO. Ms Yukniavychene touched on the main aspects of Lithuania's security policy and outlined the main directions of its foreign policy.

 

On April 14, 2011, the Institute hosted the traditional and most anticipated event of the year - the MIS IIR - 2011 competition.

 

On April 20, 2011, the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and the Ukrainian Association of International Law held the third international law reading. The scientific report of the candidate of legal sciences, professor, and head of the department of international law Oleksandr Viktorovych Zadorozhny was presented on the topic: "International legal problems of Ukrainian-Russian relations. An attempt at a scientific analysis of 20 years of experience".

 

April 21, 2011, became a significant day in the history of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. UN Secretary-General Mr Ban Ki-moon gave a lecture for teachers, students and guests of the Institute of International Relations. The guest of honour was greeted by the rector of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Leonid Vasyliovych Huberskyi, and the Director of the Institute of International Relations, Valery Volodymyrovych Kopiyka. After the welcome speech, Mr Huberskyi (Full text of L.V. Huberskyi's speech) awarded the Secretary-General of the United Nations with the title of honorary doctor of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University (the day before, the Academic Council of the Institute officially adopted the decision to award Ban Ki-moon). After the greeting in Ukrainian, the Secretary-General delivered a lecture (Full text of the UN Secretary-General's speech), which touched on current world problems, including the nuclear issue, issues of security and world peace. In addition, Ban Ki-moon thanked the Ukrainian authorities for providing support to UN agencies located on the territory of Ukraine.


May 2011

From May 10 to 15, a summer school on the topic "Integration processes in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe at the present stage" was held in the city of Vadul-Luis-Vaud. The conference was organized by the State Institute of International Relations of Moldova. The conference was attended by professor Rita Oleksandrivna Zablotska, associate professor Olena Yuriivna Kovtun and students of the IV year of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Education, Dmytro Voroshilov, Nemyro Artem, Volodymyr Novikov and Valeriya Todorova. Students from Bulgaria, Moldova, Russia and Romania were also present. Within the framework of the project, such issues as: "Prospects of NATO's eastern expansion", "Transnistrian conflict", "Migration problems in Europe" and others were discussed. The conference ended with a simulation of the summit of the border countries of the EU and the CIS on the topic "Problems of national security in the context of European integration processes.

 

On May 13, 2011, the Fourth All-Ukrainian Day of Legal Vacancies was held at the Institute of International Relations. The purpose of the event was to provide an opportunity for young students to personally submit their resumes and undergo an interview with managers of leading law firms in Ukraine and the world; secure an internship or employment in them, get to know the work of leading law firms and personally communicate with their representatives.

 

On May 17, at the initiative of the Chairman of the Council of Students of the Institute of International Studies, Artem Nikiforov, with the assistance of the Union of Rectors of Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine, a round table was held on May 17 with the participation of the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine Yevhen Sulima on the topic: "The role of student self-government bodies in solving social and household problems of Kyiv students".

 

On May 20, 2011, the Institute of International Relations was visited by an official delegation of the NATO International Military Staff headed by the General Director of the NATO International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Jürgen Bornemann. The NATO delegation visited the Institute of International Relations as part of an official visit to Ukraine.

 

On May 20, 2011, in the 12th hall of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the 1st All-Ukrainian simulation of the European Council Summit on the "Eastern Partnership" issue took place. The main initiators and organizers of this event were students of the Institute of International Relations: Alina Kulikovska (3 MP) and Anton Kuchuhidze (3 MV). Active participation in the organization and support of the simulation was carried out by Yuna Sheikhaliyeva (Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Youth Assembly), Chairman of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Law Viktor Shvets, Head of Security and Law Enforcement; People's Deputy of Ukraine, Makienko Volodymyr Petrovych; Ihor Kogut, Chairman of the Council of the Laboratory of Legislative Initiatives, national coordinator for Ukraine of the Civil Society Forum of the Eastern Partnership. Member of the European Parliament, Michal Tomasz Kaminsky, sent a congratulatory letter to the participants of the simulation, in which he expressed his support for Ukraine's European aspirations.

 

On May 25, 2011, the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Ukrainian Association of International Law held the fourth international legal reading. The scientific report of the candidate of legal sciences, associate professor of the department of international law Skrynka Dmytro Vasyliovych on the topic "Actual problems of the development of the law of the World Trade Organization in the practice of settlement of disputes within the framework of the WTO" was presented. The international legal readings were attended by outstanding Ukrainian theoreticians and practitioners of international law, representatives of leading universities and scientific institutions, in particular, the National University "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy", the National University "Odesa Legal Academy", the Institute of International Relations of the National Aviation University, the Ukrainian State University of Finance and International Trade.

 

On May 25, Kyiv National Linguistic University hosted the Forum of Leaders of Student Self-Government Bodies of Higher Education Institutions of the III-IV Level of Ukraine's Accreditation "Students' Demands - Reality?".

 

On May 31, 2011, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr Dimitris Drutsas, led a delegation that included the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Greece to Ukraine, Mr Georgios Georguntzos, and the 1st class adviser, deputy head mission Mr Georgios Alamanos. In addition, representatives of twelve embassies came to the Minister's meeting together with students, post-graduate students and teachers of the Institute of Foreign Studies.

 

June 2011

On June 15, 2011, as part of the TEMPUS project "Means to ensure the quality of internationalization management", a meeting of the employees of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, who are engaged in the management of international relations, with external experts on the internationalization of education took place in the Main building and the Institute of International Relations.

 

On June 17, a conference was held in the Mykhailo Maksimovych auditorium of the Shevchenko KNU, dedicated to summarizing the results of the competition among students on the topic: "Ukraine: 20 years of statehood."
On June 21, a press conference of heads of student self-government bodies was held in support of the new version of the draft Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education".

 

On June 21, 2011, students of the Institute of International Relations of Tars Shevchenko Kyiv National University were awarded double certificates of the Institute of International Relations and Heinrich Heine University of Dusseldorf for completing the course "European Competitive System and Market Regulation".

 

On June 30, 2011, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv had a meeting with the delegation of the Chinese University of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. A delegation consisting of the president of the University, Ambassador Zhao Jingjun, the director of the educational department, professor Tong Xin, and the director of the international relations department, professor Tang Jiyun, visited the IMI to discuss the issues of expanding cooperation in the field of training personnel for the foreign policy departments of Ukraine and China.

 

September 2011

On September 1, 2011, students of the Institute of International Relations had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Wolfgang Kleinwachter, professor of Aarhus University (Denmark), founder of the European Summer School on Internet Management, a world-class expert in international information law.

 

September 5, 2011, IIR students had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Australian professor Christopher Auld on the topic "Sustainable business development. The impact of major sports and entertainment events on society and the environment."

 

Professor of the Institute of International Relations Filipenko A.S. took part in the work of the 17th international scientific conference on the topic: "European integration at the crossroads: deepening or disintegration", which took place in Vienna on September 16-18, 2011.

 

On September 20, 2011, a meeting of international law students took place with a doctor of legal sciences, a professor, the President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture or Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the President of the Advisory Committee of the UN Human Rights Council, a member of the European Commission "For democracy through law" (of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe) by Lyatif Huseynov. Professor Huseynov, who in 1986 graduated from the Faculty of International Relations and International Law of Kyiv State University named after T. G. Shevchenko, told the students about the peculiarities of the career of an international law expert in the field of human rights protection, shared interesting aspects of his work experience in relevant international bodies and answered numerous questions from students. From the Institute of International Relations, the head of the Department of International Law, Professor O. V. Zadorozhnyi, and Associate Professor of the Department of International Law, member of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture or Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, M. M. Hnatovsky, took part in the meeting.

 

On September 27, 2011, a lecture by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine P.A. Klimkin was held at the Institute of International Relations as part of the "European Union in International Relations" training course. It considered a whole range of issues related to the process of European integration, namely, the evolution of relations between Ukraine and the EU, the main principles of their cooperation today, the main areas of economic and political cooperation between the two sides, as well as the prospects for Ukraine's membership in the European Union.

 

September 29, 2011, there was a meeting of masters of specialization "International Organizations and Diplomatic Service" of IIR with Doctor of Theological Sciences, Archimandrite Gavriil. The topic of the lecture is "Peculiarities of religious etiquette, religious protocol, as well as the participation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in interfaith dialogue as a component of the dialogue of civilizations."

 

October 2011

On October 5, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University held a round table on the topic "The path from a law student to a lawyer: procedure and peculiarities."

 

On October 12, 2011, the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Danylo Türk, visited the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Mr President arrived together with the delegation as part of his visit to Ukraine and gave a lecture to the students of the Institute of Foreign Studies on the topic "European security and cooperation today". The meeting with Mr President was opened by the Vice-Rector of the University for Scientific and Pedagogical Work P.A. Beh.

 

On October 12, 2011, the Institute of International Relations was visited by a delegation from Colombia headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Patti Londono Jaramillo. The delegation arrived at the Institute as part of an official visit to Ukraine. Mr Alfonso Soria Mendoza, Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, was also present in the delegation.

 

On October 19, 2011, a round table meeting on the topic: "20th anniversary of the restoration of independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Ukraine: from the establishment of diplomatic relations to strategic partnership" was held in the hall of the academic council of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. The event was organized jointly with the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Ukraine on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the restoration of state sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The participants of the meeting were representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine, people's deputies of Ukraine, leading domestic and Azerbaijani scientists, teachers and students of the Institute of Foreign Studies. During the meeting, the historical foundations and current issues of Ukrainian-Azerbaijani relations were discussed, as well as promising directions for the development of the strategic partnership of both states. As part of the event, the presentation of the book "Azerbaijan: Essays of History" by Doctor of Science, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (NAS), Director of the Institute of History named after A. Bakikhanov NANA Yagub Magmudlu.

 

On October 27, 2011, the International Organizations and Diplomatic Service master's degree students met with Voytovych Volodymyr Vasyliovych, Ambassador-at-Large of the Department of Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation and Relations with Ukrainians Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, on October 27, 2011.

 

November 2011

On November 10, 2011, a master class on the topic "Energy Diplomacy" was held, which was held by the representative of the President of Ukraine on international energy security issues (2005-2010) B.I. Sokolovskyi for master's students specializing in international organizations and the diplomatic service and international business of the Institute of international relations. The lecture highlighted the priorities of modern energy diplomacy of Ukraine, the USA and the Russian Federation, and showed the role of the energy factor in the modern system of international relations.

 

On November 16, 2011, at the Institute of International Relations, with the support of 6 leading law firms of Ukraine (Arzinger, Asters, CMS Cameron McKenna, Engarde, Yegorov, Puginskyi, Afanasiev & Partners and Ilyashev & Partners) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) seminar-presentation of the new ICC Arbitration Rules.

 

On November 17, 2011, the "Rainbow of Countries" competition was held at the Institute of International Relations, which aimed to mark the International Day of Tolerance (November 16) and International Student Day.

 

On November 17-18, 2011, the International Scientific Conference "Participation of Ukraine in Free Zones" was held at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University trade: status, problems, prospects".

 

On November 28, 2011, at the Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv National University named after T. Shevchenko, students of the Department of International Relations had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by the former Minister of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania, Linas Linkevicius. Mr Linkevičius gave a lecture on the topic: "NATO after the Treaty of Lisbon". In addition, the Defense Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine, Mr Sigitas Butkus, was present at the meeting.

 

December 2011

On December 2, 2011, the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, with the support of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Ukraine, held an all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference on compensation standards and state responsibility in cases of human rights violations and mass torts.

 

On December 6, 2011, in the premises of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the fifth graduation of trainees of advanced training courses from among the employees of the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine under the program "European integration: economy, politics, law" took place.

 

On December 9, an international conference "Southern Flank of Eurasia: Competition and Cooperation" was held in Kyiv, jointly organized by the Institute of International Relations of KNU. T. Shevchenko and Moscow State University.

 

On December 9-10, 2011, the III International Law Competition named after V.M. Koretskyi on European law in the field of human rights. The winner of the competition was the IIR team consisting of 1st-year master's students of the MP department - Olga Kyrylyuk, Yulia Korsun and Ruadze Nodar.


On December 15, 2011, at the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, as part of the program of the Association of Graduates of the Institute of International Relations, together with the Gorshenin Kyiv Institute of Management Problems, an open lecture by the Ambassador, Head of the European Union Representation in Ukraine, Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira, was held.

 

On December 16, 2011, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University hosted a ceremonial presentation of the encyclopedic dictionary "European Union: Economy, Politics, Law" prepared by the creative team of the Institute of International Relations under the editorship of the Director, prof. Kopiyki V.V.

 

On December 20, 2011, fifteen students of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University received certificates of completion of the 32-hour course "Competition Policy and Regulation of the EU Common Market" conducted by Professor Heinrich Heine Universitat Dusseldorf by Mr Riccardo Menghi.
