International scientific symposium ‘Interdisciplinary Studies of International Economic Relations in the Context of Increasing Protectionism and Trade Wars’
On 5 December 2025, an international scientific symposium ‘Interdisciplinary Studies of International Economic Relations in the Context of Increasing Protectionism and Trade Wars’ was held and organised by the Interdisciplinary Centre ‘Synthesis’ of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations.

The symposium was held online and brought together teachers, PhD students, and students to discuss the following topics:
- protectionism (history, theory, policy);
- tariffs and stock markets;
- tariffs and economic development;
- tariffs and the cost of living;
- tariffs and global trade;
- tariff policy of individual countries and regions;
- tariffs and the WTO.
The event began with a welcome speech and a keynote presentation, ‘Principles of Interdisciplinarity in International Economic Relations’ by Anton Filipenko, Head of the Educational and Scientific Centre ‘Synthesis’, Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations.
The topics of the participants’ presentations covered various aspects, from geo-economic fragmentation, green tariffs, the synergy between business history and economics, to the concept of “economic fragility”, tariff evasion mechanisms, and the impact of protectionism on trade flows.
The event was moderated by Vasyl Namoniuk, PhD, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of International Finance, and Arina Maliuha, Teacher at the Department of Foreign Languages and PhD student at the Department of International Finance.
The Organising Committee collected abstracts from over 40 participants. The best abstracts will be published on the website of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations and by the British publisher Cambridge Scholar Publishing. All participants who presented their research findings at the symposium will receive certificates.
