The lecture was organized within the framework of the course “The European Union: Politics, Governance, Diplomacy” with the aim of deepening students’ understanding of contemporary approaches to Ukraine’s migration policy in the European context.
During the lecture, the following key issues were discussed:
- the concept and current trends in migration processes, their causes, and challenges;
- migration of Ukrainian citizens after the start of the full-scale invasion, EU countries’ assistance, current situation, and related problems;
- refugee and temporary protection statuses;
- the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU, its standards and requirements;
- specific aspects of Ukraine’s migration relations with Russia;
- visa-free regimes introduced by Ukraine and the conditions for foreigners’ stay on its territory.
Special attention was given to the new EU border management systems — the Entry/Exit System (EES) and ETIAS, the electronic travel authorization aimed at enhancing security within the European Union.
The session concluded with a lively discussion, during which students were particularly interested in how new technologies affect EU border security and the role of artificial intelligence in the work of consular institutions.
