On 22 April 2026, a meeting was held at the Educational and Research Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv between students on the Master’s programmes in ‘International Finance and Investment’, ‘International Business’ and third-year students of the ‘International Economic Relations’ programme with the renowned Ukrainian banker and public figure Stanislav Mykhailovych Arzhevitin (Member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the 5th and 6th convocations, Honoured Economist of Ukraine, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Ukrainian Banks, Chairman of the Public Council at the National Bank of Ukraine, Academician of the Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine, Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Department of Banking and Insurance at the Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University). In his speech, Stanislav Mykhailovych shared his memories and reflections on his work in Ukraine’s banking system and on the Public Council of the NBU. He noted that this year marks 35 years since the National Bank of Ukraine began operations and 30 years since the monetary reform and the introduction of the national currency, the ‘hryvnia’. He spoke about the peculiarities of reforming the financial sector in Ukraine and the complexities of legislative work in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. He emphasised that the moral duty of business during the war and the post-war period of Ukraine’s recovery is to focus not only on achieving commercial results, but also on participating in various social projects. Stanislav Mykhailovych shared his experience as Secretary of the Council of the Ukrainian Cossacks and a member of the board of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine in implementing social projects aimed at restoring sites of historical memory and cultural heritage. He recounted how he established the All-Ukrainian Zoreslav Literary Prize, which supports the work of writers and scholars who promote the creative heritage of Transcarpathia and contribute to the spiritual revival of Ukraine.
At the end of the meeting, the students actively joined the discussion and had the opportunity to ask questions about the specifics of working in Ukraine’s banking system and at the NBU, as well as about the prospects for the recovery of Ukraine’s economy and social sphere, which remain relevant today.
We sincerely thank Stanislav Mykhailovych for his informative lecture and look forward to further cooperation and interesting meetings.
