Oleksandr Shevchuk participated in the EuroDIG 2026 conference in Brussels
On May 26-27 2026, Oleksandr Shevchuk, PhD in Law and Assistant at the Department of International Law of the Institute of International Relations, participated in the EuroDIG 2026 conference in Brussels.
According to Oleksandr the number of presentations, papers and public discussions dedicated to artificial intelligence and digital transformation have been increasing rapidly each year. This year, these topics once again became central to the EuroDIG 2026 agenda.
“Along with the development of AI, gaps in international regulations of social relations are becoming increasingly evident. Legislators often fail to keep pace with technological development, while the so-called “Brussels effect” only partially addresses these gaps” , emphasized Olekdandr Shevchuk.
At the same time, issues of human rights, the rule of law, and democracy require particular attention amid global technological competition and rapid digital change.
Only through joint efforts of institutions, governments, the expert community, and social community can an effective strategy for digital sovereignty, the protection of digital rights, and balance between technological development and human rights be formed.
Oleksandr Shevchuk concluded his reflections on the conference with a quote by Vaclav Havel: “«Vision is not enough, it must be combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps, we must step up the stairs».
