Participation of representatives of EP ‘International Communications’ in the discussion of cyber diplomacy issues

On May 15-16, 2024, the International Scientific and Practical Conference on Cyber Diplomacy was held at the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was organized in partnership with the Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) Global in Ukraine with the support of the U.S. Department of State.

Valerii Kopiika, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, addressed the participants of the conference with a greeting and noted the importance of using cyber diplomacy tools to protect and ensure the national interests of Ukraine.

The practical possibilities of using cyber diplomacy in diplomatic work, the features of the use of artificial intelligence tools for the performance of functional duties by diplomats, as well as more than 20 years of scientific and educational experience in promotion of the ideas of cyber diplomacy in Ukraine within the academic direction of international communications (international information) were revealed in the speech Nataliia Pipchenko, Professor of the Department of International Information.

Honorary guests of the conference were Anneli Kolk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Estonia to Ukraine; Volodymyr Bugrov, Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; Anatolii Mazaraki, Rector of the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics; Andrii Cherniak, Rector of the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine; Oleksandr Potii, Deputy Head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine; Serhii Demediuk, Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

The conference was also attended by Ukrainian and Estonian diplomats, colleagues from other higher education institutions of Ukraine, experts in the field of cyberspace protection and regulation, and representatives of civil organizations, who discussed the general political, security and legal aspects of cyberspace regulation and standardization, and also paid attention to important directions of practical use of cyber diplomacy in diplomatic work.

Among the organizers and participants of the conference were also professors and researchers of the Institute – Nataliia Bielousova and Olena Kuchmii, Associate Professors of the Department of International Information; Mariia Zaitseva, Assistant of the Department of International Information; Natalia Rylach, co-founder and head of the School of Young Ukrainian Diplomats IIR Business School.
