RESEARCH BRANCHES
A modern scientific school on private international law having authority among scientific and educational institutions of Ukraine and abroad was formed on the basis of scientific and pedagogical achievements of the department. The research is conducted in the following areas: methodology of private international law, legal conflict theory, codification of civil law, codification of private international law, private international labour law, cross-border insolvency, international trade and investment law, international commercial arbitration, international civil property law, intellectual property law, international family law.
LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY
A significant contribution to the development of the modern legal system of Ukraine was made by scientists of the Department of Private International Law, thanks to their active participation in national and international law-making. Scientists of the department took part in the development of the new Civil Code of Ukraine, the Law of Ukraine "On International Private Law" and other normative acts, as well as in scientific commenting on these documents.
Professor A.S. Dovgert participated in the writing of the Model Civil Code, the Model Labor Code and a number of other model laws. As a member of the government delegations of Ukraine at the diplomatic sessions of the Hague Conference on Private International Law, A.S. Dovgert took part in the preparation of a number of drafts and final texts of conventions.
The Supreme Court of the Netherlands made a final decision in favor of Ukraine in a legal dispute regarding the ownership of museum jewels, tentatively called the "Scythian gold case." The case lasted 9 years. Professor Anatoliy Dovgert acted as an expert. This is an outstanding victory in Ukraine's legal battle with the Russian aggressor!
Biryukov O.M. participated in the development of the Model Law for the CIS countries "On the Securities Market" (1998-2000), the draft Model Law "On Bank Insolvency" (2003-2004), the UNIDROIT Convention on the Unification of Material Norms in the Field of Securities Circulation , held by intermediaries (2002-2009), as well as in the World Bank's International Bankruptcy Standards for Individuals (2011-2013).
The department provides lectures and practical classes in the academic disciplines "international private law", "comparative civil law", "international civil process", "comparative civil process", "international commercial arbitration" and other disciplines related to the provision of legal regulation of foreign economic activity.
The department has introduced the newest forms of the educational process, in particular, holding classes in the case study format together with specialists from leading law firms ("Baker & McKenzie", "Vasyl Kisil and Partners", "DLA Piper", "Ilyashev and Partners" and others).
To read special courses, the department invites specialists from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Administration of the President of Ukraine, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, the Supreme Court of Ukraine, as well as practicing lawyers.

The Department has a student club on Private Law, "Private Challenges," which is guided by Assistant Professor Viktoriia O. Khomenko.
During the 2023-2024 academic year, the club held a series of meetings on digitalizing civil rights objects with invited lecturers from the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine.
Between April and July 2024, the group held 24 meetings to prepare the 4th-year students for the professional tests.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, the group and the Legal Department of the Student Council held meetings on the topic "The Legal Profession" with invited lecturers from law firms and attorneys.
