On November 24-25, 2022, the international scientific conference "Transformation processes in Ukraine after the Russian-Ukrainian war: interdisciplinary assessments" was held. The All-Ukrainian Association of International Economists invited teachers, graduate students and students to take an active part in the work of the mentioned conference, in particular, to listen to the reports at the plenary session of the leading domestic scientists in the field of social sciences. On 17 April 2019, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv held the seminar “The interdisciplinarity in international economic relations“ organized by the scientific and educational centre “SYNTHESIS” led by ANTON FILIPENKO, Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations of the IIR of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The meeting was opened by the presentation of the head of the centre “SYNTHESIS”, Professor A. Filipenko, during which he outlined the main categories, approaches and assertions related to the interdisciplinarity in IER. Among others, there was indicated the genesis of interdisciplinarity, the main features of multi-disciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. Professor Filipenko has substantiated that interdisciplinarity is one of the principal modern trends in the field of education and science, outlined the interdisciplinary methodology in IER, and issues of the history of IER. From his point of view, the second theoretical bloc of international economic relations has an interdisciplinary character as well that includes economic theory, economic geography, mathematics, econometrics, and statistics; and the third bloc of IER namely the international economic policy within the interdisciplinary format includes economic theory, international political economy and the doctrines on the economic world. 

The speech of the famous economist caused a lively discussion among the participants of the seminar, in which took part, in particular, N. PAVLIKHA – Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Doctor of Economics, Professor of Lesia Ukrainka East European National University (Lutsk), emphasizing the interdisciplinary approach to sustainable development; L. PETKOVA – Doctor of Economics, Professor of Cherkasy State Technological University, noting the relevance of the interdisciplinary approach, which encourages work on the structure of training courses for students of economics; T. OREKHOVA  – Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of International Business and Applied Economics, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University; N. RILACH – Candidate of Economic Sciences, Senior Research Fellow of the IIR Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Deputy Head of the “SYNTHESIS” Center – expressed her opinion on the interdisciplinary approach related to the study of global innovation networks; O. CHUGAYEV – Candidate of Economic Sciences, Docent of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations of the IIR of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, telling about interdisciplinary courses on IER, which he teaches at the IIR; V. ZASANSKY – Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Fundamentals of Economic Theory of National Aviation University.

V. Panchenko, Doctorate of the National University of Mariupol, Director of Agency for Development of Dnipro, in his presentation “Neo-protectionism as Modern Tool of Development of Economy. Multi-disciplinary Approach” he named the reasons and origins of neo-liberalism, raised the question concerned with interdisciplinarity and the possibility to utilize the neo-protectionism.

The scientific and theoretical seminar has united the scientists and experts around the discussion on interdisciplinarity in international economic relations. In particular, among them are E. CHORNOBAY – Candidate of Economic Sciences, Professor of Department of Management and International Entrepreneurship of Lviv Polytechnic University, Graduates and Doctoral Students of the IIR of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and other glorified international economists from all Ukraine.

The theses of the seminar will be issued in digital form in the magazine “International relations. Economy”. The special edition “Interdisciplinary discussions”.

On 17 May 2018, the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv took place in the international scientific symposium “Interdisciplinarity in international relations: theory, methodology, practice”.

Coordinator for Scientific Work of the IIR of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Docent A. Korynevych inaugurated the symposium expressing the support of the activity of the centre, emphasizing the importance of realization of the interdisciplinary approach in Ukraine in scientific researches and education that is the purpose of the activity of educational and scientific centre “Synthesis”, and wishing the successes in its further fertile work.

The Vice-President of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine, academician of NASU, and Doctor of Economics, Professor S. Pyrozhkov has congratulated those present at the inauguration of the symposium, stressing the significance of using the interdisciplinary approach for reconsidering international relations in the XXI century. Ukraine nowadays solves the complex tasks that require consolidation of the society, and usage of knowledge from diverse spheres: cultural, communicative, international law etc. In the scholar’s opinion, holding such an event has scientific and practical importance since defining tendencies of interdisciplinarity foster the deepening of the cooperation among the scientific circles of Ukraine and other states.

In her greeting speech, First Deputy Minister of Informational Policy of Ukraine E. Dzhaparova touched on the issues of the hybrid war and other threats to the national security of Ukraine. Currently, the political and economic structure of the globalized world is complicated. Thus, the studying of modern tendencies requires a new interdisciplinary school. Mrs First Deputy Minister stressed that among the directions of work of the Ministry of Informational Policy, there is a new analysis of the influence of international relations, hybrid informational wars that necessitates the involvement of specialists, and speaking about the new theory and methodology according to which the IIR of Taras Shevchenko the National University of Kyiv will prepare the specialists in the field of international relations, it should include the practices received as the result of work of the present symposium.

Director of the Department of Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine A. Solovey highlighted that public diplomacy is a new direction of the activity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine that needs knowledge and skills from the diplomats that are given by the multi-disciplinarity. Namely, according to his words: “The interdisciplinarity is key to the success of modern diplomacy”.

The Vice-President of the Ukrainian Foreign Policy Association, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, and Candidate of Legal Sciences O. Kupchyshyn has pointed out that diplomacy itself is an interdisciplinary sphere of activity that envisages the combination of the history of international relations, international law, international organizations, the law of international treaties, country studies, psychology, logic, etiquette, protocol, international economic relations, knowledge of the modern informational technologies and foreign languages. Furthermore, Mr Ambassador told about the activity of the Ukrainian Foreign Policy Association which unites 12 Ambassadors and other diplomats. Its principles are “impartiality, objectivity and equidistance”.

In the work of the international symposium took part the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India in Ukraine Mr Manoj Kumar Bharti with his speech “The Creation of Common Future in the Broken World”. The main theses of the statement were the issues of new changes and new powers in the world, the changes in the balance of economic capacity and political authority that are reflected in the far-reaching transformations in the world, the appearance of new serious challenges related to the peace, stability and security in the world. These challenges include climate change, terrorism, growing focus of many states and societies on protectionism as a counterweight to the phenomenon of globalization. Moreover, Mr Ambassador stressed the role of India in resolving global concerns, promoting democracy, stable high-tech development and a favourable investment climate.

Doctor of Economics, Professor of Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations of the IIR of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Head of the educational and scientific centre “Synthesis” A. Filipenko has made a speech with the presentation “Interdisciplinarity in Modern Scientific and Educational Space” in which there were outlined the prerequisites and main approaches in the cross-disciplinary researches and also was presented the comparative characteristic of interdisciplinarity, multi-disciplinarity and transdisciplinarity.  

Deputy Director for Scientific and Pedagogical Work of the IIR of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Docent I. Minhazutdinov in his report “Principles of Interdisciplinarity in Educational Methodological Activity of the Institute of International Relations” has emphasized that the preparation of specialists in the field of international relations requires the usage of interdisciplinary approach or “cross-learning” on which receiving of knowledge is based in the IIR.

Coordinator for Scientific Work of the IIR of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Docent A. Korynevych has delivered the report “Interdisciplinary methodology in scientific-analytical work” in which he noted that at present all the scientific work is built with the usage of an interdisciplinary approach. The phenomenon of specialists in the field of international relations means the receipt of knowledge and skills in many disciplines. The speaker put the question of the actualization and design of interdisciplinary approaches in international research.

In the work of the international symposium with their reports has also participated the leading specialists and scientists that are, in particular, V. Lypov – Doctor of Economics, Professor of the Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics, Doctor of Economics, Professor O. Moskalenko, Doctor of Economics, Professor Y. Zaitsev – Department of Political Economy of “KNEU named after Vadym Hetman " and others.

On 22 March 2018, the educational and scientific centre “Synthesis” of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv in cooperation with the Department of Theory and History of Sociology of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv held the scientific and theoretical seminar “The controversies of the structural transformation of Ukrainian society in conditions of euro integration and globalization”. Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of International Relations, Docent A. Korynevych inaugurated the session by expressing support for the activity of the centre, stressing the significance of realization of the interdisciplinary approach in Ukraine in scientific research and education that constitutes the goal of activity of educational and scientific centre “Synthesis”, and also confidence and assistance with respect to its further fertile work.

Head of the centre “Synthesis”, Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations A. Filipenko highlighted the relevance of studying the state of Ukrainian society in conditions of implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. On the other hand, it is necessary to take into account the openness of the national economy, and the participation of domestic enterprises and their representatives in the globalized processes that also make an influence on the structure and dynamics of Ukrainian society. 

The central speech of the seminar was the presentation of the Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Head of the Department of Theory and History of Sociology namely “Controversies of Structural Transformation of Ukrainian Society in Conditions of Eurointegration and Globalization”. In the research, there were outlined the concepts of social identification of Ukrainian society, in particular, the concept of ontological uniqueness of Ukrainian society, the concept of the crisis of social self-determination, the concept of the ineffectiveness of democratic reformation, the concept of optimal adaptation of the society to the global tendencies of internationalizing of public life. 

Head of the Scientific and Research Centre of the Faculty of Sociology of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Doctor of Sociological Sciences, Professor Y. Syrii expressed his opinions concerning the diversity and culmination of the development of social tension of Ukrainian society. Professor of the Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics, Doctor of Economic Sciences, V. Lypov, has made a presentation of the research “Ukraine and EU: Between Socio-cultural Resonance and Dissonance”, in which he researched the impact of socio-cultural factors on the processes of Eurointegration of Ukraine. Researcher of the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Candidate of Economic Sciences K. Gorditsa in her study "Structural Risks of Foreign Trade: Lessons from Domestic History" considered the structure of international trade since the days of Kievan Rus.

The scientific and theoretical seminar brought together scientists and experts around the discussion related to the contradictions of the structural transformation of Ukrainian society in modern conditions. In particular, representatives of the Faculty of Sociology of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Kyiv National Economic University named after V. Hetman, the Institute of Evolutionary Economics, the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Institute of Industrial Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University, the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine "Nizhyn Agrotechnical Institute" and other educational institutions.

On 5 December 2017 in the educational and scientific centre “Synthesis” of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, there was held the scientific and theoretical seminar “The controversies of the structural transformation of Ukrainian society in conditions of euro integration and globalization”. Director of the Institute of International Relations, and Head of the International Scientific Council of the centre “Synthesis”, Professor V. Kopiika delivered the greeting speech, expressing support for the activity of the centre and confidence concerning its further fertile work.

Head of the centre “Synthesis”, Professor of the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations A. Filipenko has delivered the presentation “Interdisciplinary Methodology: Basic Principles” in which he has given the historical background related to the approaches and assertions about the emergence of interdisciplinary researches in diverse fields of sciences, outlined the prerequisites of development of interdisciplinarity in the science and education, emphasized main approaches to such researches, disclosed the essence, characteristic features, value dimensions and tendencies of interdisciplinarity in the XXI century.

The scientific and theoretical seminar has united scientists and experts around the discussion concerning theoretical and methodological principles of research of interdisciplinarity. In particular, the representatives of the Faculty of Sociology of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, the National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute named after Igor Sikorsky", the Institute of Evolutionary Economics, the Institute of Economics and Forecasting of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and other educational and scientific institutions.

According to the results of the seminar, there will be issued the collection of theses “Interdisciplinary Discussions”.
