Research
The department is one of the recognized research centres for the study of the global economy and international economic relations in Ukraine and Europe.
Over decades of productive work, the department has established:
The University Scientific School «Methodology of Research in the Global Economy and International Economic Relations» (scientific leader of the school: Professor O.I. Shnyrkov, established in 1989).
Two departmental scientific schools:
«The European Union in the Global Economic Environment» (led by Professor O.I. Shnyrkov)
«Development of Contemporary Global Economic Issues» (led by Professor A.S. Filipenko).
Since 1977, the department has prepared and successfully defended 130 candidate theses and 33 doctoral dissertations, as well as 7 PhD theses. Since 2000, 44 monographs, 64 textbooks and teaching aids, and more than 700 scientific articles have been published, including over 50 in Scopus and WoS journals.
During 2019–2022, the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations, within the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, implemented the project "In-depth Development of European Studies in Ukraine: An Interdisciplinary Approach" (No. 611625-EPP-1-2019-1-UA-EPPJMO-CoE) was implemented at the Department of World Economy and International Economic Relations of the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations within the framework of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. The project aimed to develop European studies, disseminate knowledge about the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement and expand cooperation with Ukrainian society.
Within the framework of the Centre's activities, international conferences, EU law competitions (moot courts), specialised courses and training sessions for students, schoolchildren, teachers, civil servants and representatives of public organisations were held. Considerable attention has been paid to scientific and educational work: monographs, textbooks, lecture notes and information booklets have been prepared, and educational programmes on EU economics, politics, law and communications have been updated. Thanks to these initiatives, the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations has become a methodological centre with open educational resources in the field of European studies and a platform for discussions on current trends in EU development and Ukraine-EU relations.

2016-2025: The department studied the budgetary scientific topic «Theory and Mechanisms of the Development of International Integration Processes in the Early 21st Century», led by Doctor of Economics, Professor O.I. Shnyrkov.
