The course examines geographical location, climatic conditions, mineral and raw resources, the ethnic and religious structure of the population, the peculiarity of the cultural and historical development of political and legal systems, government, economic systems and foreign policy in the countries of the world.

The political history of countries in the world

Mastering the course promotes a deeper understanding of current political issues, increases the theoretical level and broadens the outlook of students.

Regionalization of the World

The course examines common approaches to the regional division of the world, the main criteria and typological schemes, and the characteristics of the regions selected using different criteria. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic principles of regionalization of the world, which will be useful in future country studies research.

Geopolitical and geoeconomic interests in world politics

The course focuses on the formation of students' comprehensive approach to the study of the geopolitical orientation and geo-economic interests of the countries, understanding of global development trends, and patterns of formation of a modern political map of the world and geopolitical space.

Introduction to university studies

Academic discipline shapes the students' knowledge of the fundamentals of country studies as a science. It introduces them to the object and the subject of the country studies in the system of education and professional training in international, country-study methodology, and specific instances of the influence of regional factors on foreign policy and international relations.

Ukrainian and foreign culture

The course discusses spiritual and material culture created and recorded for centuries in various forms. They are covered according to the historic continuum as a holistic phenomenon, but also on a regional basis, taking into account the interdependence between the cultural achievements of different peoples. Because no ethnic group or nation can not develop itself in isolation, outside the general historical process.

Tourist country studies

The discipline studies the main theoretical and methodological bases of tourist country studies and examines major regions, countries and individual tourist centres of the world in terms of tourist potential and existing tourist infrastructure, place of individual countries and regions in the global tourism market.

Sports country studies

The course explores the history of world sports, the main regions of the world are studied in terms of their sports infrastructure, public policy in the field of sports, and the popularity of different sports. The geography of the most important national and international sportive events, activities of international sports organizations, the principles of transfer policy in the field of sport and its place in the inter-state and international relations are given.

Political development and political systems of countries in the world

The course focuses on the study of trends in political development and political characteristics of countries in a comparative context and on a regional basis. It's based on the allocation of the leading factors in the political process in a given region.

Civilizations in the world

The course examines the main stages of formation and primary characteristics of world civilizations. Particular attention is paid to the problem of dynamics and interaction of civilizations, and the nature of their influence on contemporary international relations, revealing different models of the world in the concepts of domestic and foreign civilizations theorists, students are provided with an explanation of the principles and limits of comparative civilization studies.

Tourist business in world politics

The academic discipline aims to study the impact of tourism on world politics, the role of the countries in the world of tourism and the fight for tourist flows and earnings, and the impact of tourists on the domestic and foreign policies of the host country.

Features of the historical development of the region (the post-Soviet area, Europe and North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, and Latin America)

The academic discipline is studied using specialized seminars and individual work that involves teacher and student depending on the latter's regional specialization. The aim is to share with the students a holistic understanding of the history of countries of their particular specialization, the history of the state development process, and the formation of foreign policy orientation.

The aim is to have students develop a holistic understanding of the features of political processes in countries of the selected region.

Features of productive forces distribution and economic development of the region (the post-Soviet area, Europe and North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, and Latin America)

The academic discipline is studied using specialized seminars and individual work that involves teacher and student depending on the latter's regional specialization. The purpose of discipline is an in-depth study of the nature and characteristics of productive forces distribution, of the economic development of selected countries, and of the impact of these factors on foreign trade.

Features of civilization development and humanitarian relations in the region (the post-Soviet area, Europe and North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, and Latin America)

The academic discipline is studied using specialized seminars and individual work that involves teacher and student depending on the latter's regional specialization. The purpose of the discipline is an in-depth study of the nature and characteristics of cultural and civilizational development of the region and their impact on the local humanitarian, cultural and educational components in their domestic and foreign policies of states, their relations in the humanitarian sphere. Discipline is intended to facilitate the development of skills in analyzing the political aspects of humanitarian, cultural and educational interstate cooperation.

Ethnonational development of the region (the post-Soviet area, Europe and North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, and Latin America)

The academic discipline is studied using specialized seminars and individual work that involves teacher and student depending on the latter's regional specialization. The purpose of discipline is to develop students' understanding of basic concepts of ethnic policy, in particular, specific linguistic, ethnic and cultural features of different regions, features of territorial localization of ethnic minorities and ensuring rights in respective countries.

Cultural and spiritual traditions of peoples of the region (the post-Soviet area, Europe and North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania, and Latin America)

The academic discipline is studied using specialized seminars and individual work that involves teacher and student depending on the latter's regional specialization. The purpose of discipline is to develop students’ understanding of the customs and traditions of the peoples, the cultural role of religions, and the specifics of artistic crafts in respective countries.

Basic research writing and style

Discipline introduces students to basic theoretical concepts related to the understanding of science and scientific research, its methodology and information management, organizational logic and experimental stages of scientific inquiry.

History of political ideas

The course focuses on the learning and comprehension of the sense and patterns of evolution of world political thought, especially in matters of foreign policy and international relations, contributing to a deeper understanding of current political problems of the past and present. Mastering the course raises the theoretical level and broadens students' worldview, assisting them in learning the culture and methods of political analysis. It improves the skills of creative and critical conceptualization of processes and phenomena in world politics as well.

 

Second (Master's) level of higher education


Advanced Topics in the Foreign Policy of Ukraine

The course provides consideration of the main directions of the foreign policy of Ukraine and its problems, which allows the Master’s degree students to acquire the skills necessary for future professional work in the process of protecting key national interests of Ukraine.

Advanced Topics in International Security

The course contributes to a deeper understanding of the causes of instability in key countries of different regions and continents, as well as increases the theoretical level of knowledge and expands students' worldview on the fundamental problems of national security that are inherent in Ukraine.

Multilateral Diplomacy and Mechanisms of Contemporary International Relations Regulation

The course is devoted to the study of theoretical and practical aspects of multilateral diplomacy, its role in the regulation of modern international relations that envisages the study of the following aspects: ‘parliamentary’ diplomacy, conference diplomacy, the role of non-governmental structures in multilateral diplomacy, approaches to multilateral diplomacy of leading countries in the world. A special place is given to the study of the peculiarities of multilateral diplomacy of Ukraine.

Geopolitical Environment of Ukraine

The course involves an analysis of the geopolitical environment of Ukraine is the basis for forming the foreign policy strategy of the state, which, in turn, determines its geopolitical interests and foreign policy course.

Geostrategy of Countries in the World

The discipline promotes a deeper understanding of the processes taking place in the world in the context of globalization, allows one to understand the geopolitical interests of states and the means to achieve their strategic goals of establishing control over a particular area, raises the theoretical level and expands students' worldview.

Identity and Social Hierarchy in the Interstate Relations of Countries in the World

The course is aimed at considering and analyzing the phenomena of state identity and social hierarchy in a theoretical way and on the basis of studying the empirical and tendentious manifestations of their influence on the formation of interstate relations in different regions.

Country Studies Analysis in International Relations

The course identifies key elements of country studies analysis that allow for a thorough study of any selected country in the local, regional or global dimensions.

International Systems and Global Development

The course focuses on the analysis of political processes in the international dimension, in particular, the problems of global development, peace and war, regional integration, globalization, foreign policy of states, international security, international organizations, alliances, blocs, the dynamics of international conflicts and their solutions, the specific characteristics of transnational relations, means of international communication, international civic and political movements, as well as on the place and role of Ukraine in modern international relations.

Methodology and Organization of Scientific Research with the Basics of Intellectual Property

The course is aimed at considering and analyzing the specific characteristics of modern methodological concepts, the basics of the methodology of scientific knowledge and methods of scientific research; the formation of a holistic view of the research process; acquisition of research skills, awareness of the goals of scientific research, formation of skills of correct performance of qualification and scientific works (master’s thesis, scientific article, dissertation); as well as acquaintance with the general concepts of the essence of intellectual property in general and specific information and recommendations on the organization of creation and legal protection of intellectual property objects.

Regional Studies

The discipline is aimed at analyzing the trends in individual regions in the world, while thoroughly examining the geographical location, natural resources, minerals, main features of political systems, government, a territorial and administrative division of the post-Soviet, European and North American, Asian, African, Oceanian and Latin American countries, as well as the interstate relations of Ukraine with these countries.

Subjects of Regional Policy in Countries in the World

The course focuses on the consideration of subjects of regional policy (authorities at the level of federal subjects in federal states and autonomies in unitary states, local governments, regional political parties, public organizations of ethnic and religious minorities, etc.) in countries in the world and analyzes their impact on domestic and foreign policies of states at the local, regional and global levels.

Theory and Practice of Negotiations

The discipline provides the formation of theoretical ideas and the development of practical skills in negotiation and mediation. The discipline reveals the main features of the psychology of communication in international negotiations in terms of cooperation, confrontation and in extreme situations; specific characteristics of national and personal negotiation styles; and gives an idea of the functions, strategies and types of mediation for the students.
