Visit of Ulyana Osovska to Students of the «International Communications» Program
Third-year students of the «International Communications» program had the opportunity to meet with Ulyana Osovska — Attaché of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Image Projects of the Directorate-General for Public Diplomacy and Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, film director, and public activist.
During the meeting, the discussion focused on the nature of culture and its role in international communication. The guest explained who the recipients of cultural information are, how perceptions of Ukraine are shaped abroad, and why it is important to systematically build the “pyramid of influence” of cultural diplomacy — from the first encounter of foreign audiences with Ukrainian culture to transforming attitudes and inspiring concrete actions in its support.
Participants explored how effective communication helps move from simple awareness to active engagement, discussed the current priorities and meaning of cultural diplomacy, and examined the tools Ukraine uses today to amplify its cultural voice in the world. Ms. Osovska shared practical advice on how Ukrainian communities abroad can present Ukraine through cultural initiatives, organize events, avoid common mistakes, and at the same time build strong and trusting partnerships.
The conversation about cultural project management — from organizational aspects to the subtleties of communication in an international environment — proved equally engaging. Students actively participated in the discussion, shared their experiences and ideas for future projects, and reflected on how culture can serve as a powerful instrument of public diplomacy.
The guest also spoke in detail about her professional journey: her experience as a film director, the implementation of image-building and documentary projects aimed at promoting Ukrainian culture, and her work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where cultural diplomacy has become an essential component of state communication.
At the end of the meeting, students expressed their gratitude to Ulyana Osovska for her openness, practical insights, and genuine interest in supporting the development of young professionals. The event became a valuable and inspiring professional experience, motivating future communicators to work toward ensuring that Ukraine is spoken of around the world with respect, sympathy, and understanding.
