Workshop by diplomat Uliana OSOVSKA on the role of public diplomacy in Ukraine’s foreign policy activities

On November 3, 2025, within the cooperation between the Educational and Scientific Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, with the support of the Chair of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service, and the Chair of International Information, a meeting was held with Uliana OSOVSKA, Attaché of the Public Diplomacy and Image Projects Unit of the Department of Public Diplomacy and Communications of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, with the students of the 2st year study of master’s Educational Program ‘International Communications’ (course ‘Practice of Public Diplomacy of Ukraine’, lecturer – Nataliia PIPCHENKO, professor of the Chair of International Information).

During the workshop, students learned about Ukraine’s public diplomacy features under martial law, current challenges, tools of foreign policy communication, and also discussed future strategic directions. Specifically, the discussion focused on promising initiatives by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine regarding the updating of the Public Diplomacy Strategy and the Communication Strategy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine from 2026, the adoption of a separate Communication Strategy for Asian countries, and the systematization of approaches to communication with the countries of Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The diplomat focused on issues such as digitalization in public diplomacy, ethical communication, and the effective and destructive use of AI tools to create real-life war stories, emphasizing the importance of adhering to digital ethics and information hygiene standards.
