Workshop ‘Diplomatic reception’

Traditionally, every semester, teachers of the Department of International Organisations and Diplomatic Service conduct a practical lesson on ‘Diplomatic Reception’ for students studying the discipline ‘Diplomatic Protocol and Etiquette’.
On 14 May 2025, a regular practical lesson was held in the Polish Hall of the Dining Room of the Institute of International Relations, organised and conducted by Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Honoured Worker of Education of Ukraine Viacheslav Tsivatyi and Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor Roman Petiur.

This time, the lesson was held in the format of a role-playing game, where the participants simulated participation in a diplomatic reception of the Embassy of Ukraine in Warsaw on the occasion of the Independence Day of Ukraine. The students practiced such elements of a diplomatic event as greetings, introductions and introductions, business card etiquette, welcoming words and speeches, rules of conduct during diplomatic events, protocol support for diplomatic receptions, business dress code, basic and advanced knowledge of table etiquette, networking rules and other knowledge and skills that are inherent in a modern diplomat and business person.

The lesson was attended by 2nd year bachelor students of the International Relations programme and 1st year master students of the International Business programme.
Traditionally, the tables were set and the Polish Hall was decorated at a high professional level by the staff of the Catering Centre of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, for which they are very grateful to the organisers and students.

Despite the war and the destruction caused by it, the educational process and practical training at the Institute of International Relations continue, and students have the opportunity to feel the solemn atmosphere of a diplomatic reception and enjoy the art of diplomatic work!
