"Diplomacy and International Cooperation"

The main goal of the educational and professional program "Diplomacy and International Cooperation" is to train specialists for activities in the field of international relations and diplomacy and the practical implementation of international cooperation.

Educational: Master of International Relations, Public Communications and Regional Studies.

Professional: an expert on social and political issues (diplomacy and international cooperation).

Profile of the program: Tuition of all academic disciplines will be carried out in the Ukrainian language.

 

The target audience of the program includes Ukrainian citizens and foreigners (proficient in the state language after studying at the preparatory faculty of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) who are Bachelor in the majors the field of knowledge "International relations", and it is also allowed to admit to training graduates who are Bachelors in other majors.

A block of disciplines of free choice is aimed at developing professional skills in the field of diplomatic support for international cooperation. Successful completion of free choice courses (in case of obtaining an average score of at least 75 out of 100) is a prerequisite for the assignment of professional qualifications to graduates of the master's program.

 

The training of students is carried out in two blocks of free choice:

  • International cooperation and interagency cooperation
  • Practical diplomacy

  • Language of diplomatic documents (workshop)

Professional competencies formed:

  • In-depth knowledge of the nature, dynamics, and principles of organizing international relations, types of international actors, and modern trends in the development of world politics and diplomacy.
  • Understanding the essence of globalization processes and their impact on international relations in general and diplomatic support for international cooperation in particular.
  • Ability to analyze and predict international relations and diplomatic interaction between international actors in different contexts, in particular political, security, legal, economic, social, cultural and informational.
  • In-depth knowledge of theoretical and applied research of international relations, world politics and diplomacy in political, economic, and legal sciences, as well as in interdisciplinary research.\
  • In-depth knowledge of the nature and sources of foreign policy and diplomacy of the state, the evolution of approaches to the formation and implementation of foreign policy and diplomacy, the principles of organizing the foreign policy system and the functioning of foreign policy and diplomacy institutions.
  • Ability to independently organize and carry out scientific research on problems of international relations, identify scientific problems, prepare scientific texts and reports, and carry out their public approbation.
  • Ability to conduct applied analytical development of problems of international relations and world politics and diplomacy, professionally prepare analytical materials and references.
  • Ability to organize and conduct international meetings, and diplomatic negotiations, work in the framework of international conferences, organizations, and other forms of practical international cooperation, and work with diplomatic and international documents.
  • In-depth knowledge of the organization and functioning of the European Union, understanding of modern European integration processes and Ukraine's place in them.
  • Understanding of the peculiarities of the development of countries and regions, modern global, regional and local processes, and the place of Ukraine in them.
  • Ability to develop approaches to solving problems and tasks in the field of international relations, international and national security, foreign policy and diplomacy (in particular, on the settlement of international and domestic conflicts).
  • Proficiency in foreign languages ​​at a professional level, performance of interpretation and translation of materials on the professional subject of international relations.
     

Practical skills

In order for students to acquire practical skills in the curriculum of the educational program "Diplomacy and International Cooperation" of the educational level "master" provides for the passage of industrial (pre-diploma) practice without interruption from training sessions during the second semester in the territorial and functional units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (according to the Agreement on Cooperation between the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine dated May 30, 2017).

In particular, our applicants are represented in a number of structural units of the Ministry, including: First, Third and Fourth Territorial Departments, Political Department, Department of International Organizations, Department of State Protocol, Department of International Security and Military-Technical Cooperation, Department of EU and NATO, etc. Internship at embassies and consulates of Ukraine abroad is possible. Applicants have a unique opportunity through deep immersion in a specific diplomatic work to obtain high-quality professional experience and directly contribute to the implementation of the foreign policy of our country on the ground, and in some cases in diplomatic or consular missions abroad.

  • central authorities exercising powers in the field of international relations, foreign policy and diplomacy (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Administration of the President of Ukraine, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, departments of international cooperation of other ministries and departments of Ukraine);
  • departments of international cooperation of local authorities;
  • international intergovernmental organizations (organizations of the UN system, regional organizations);
  • non-governmental international organizations;
  • Ukrainian companies carrying out international activities;
  • representative offices of transnational companies;
  • higher educational institutions, academic institutions of Ukraine and foreign countries;
  • public organizations;
  • Ukrainian and international analytical, research and consulting agencies.
