In January-February 2018, students and teachers of most structural divisions of KNU had the opportunity to conduct educational activities in new study formats, in particular, during this period, they conducted practice, counselling students on writing courses and diploma theses, etc. Using this opportunity, it was possible to develop innovative, but effective methods of education and acquisition of practical skills.
February 2018
From February 3 to 11, 2018, a large delegation of students and teachers of the Kyiv Institute of International Relations took part in the international educational program on European studies, translation practice and parliamentarian, organized by the French NGO "Ukraine in Europe". The main goals of this educational trip were to get acquainted with the work of the institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe, the history of European construction, the parliamentary system of France, getting to know the work of the translation departments of the European Commission, its linguistic functioning and practical translation skills in the field of European integration, familiarization with the work of diplomatic missions of Ukraine abroad and study opportunities in French and European universities for Ukrainian students. In six days, IIR students visited eight institutions and attended the annual European Studies Fair in Brussels - EU Studies Fair 2018.
On February 5, 2018, the IIR delegation visited the Memorial of the Nuremberg Tribunal in Nuremberg, where they got acquainted, in particular, with interesting original documents and historical chronicles from the Nuremberg Trials.
On February 6, 2018, Ukrainian students spent a busy day in Strasbourg visiting the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights and the parliamentary session of the European Parliament. At the Council of Europe, the IIR delegation visited the PACE meeting hall and listened to a meaningful lecture by Mr Roman Shlapak. Mr Roman talked about the functioning of the institutions of the Council of Europe in general and then focused more specifically on the work of the anti-corruption body - GRECO (Group of States to fight against corruption), where he works. On the same day, the Ukrainian delegation visited the ECtHR and listened to a thorough lecture by its employee Ms Daria Pistryak about the work of this important body and the specifics of considering cases from Ukrainian plaintiffs. Finally, in the evening, the IIR delegation visited the current plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg and listened to an excellent lecture by the British Mr Henry Wasung about the work of the European Parliament and the challenges posed by the exit of Great Britain from the EU.
On February 7, 2018, the IIR delegation visited the Senate of the French Republic. This study visit took place at the invitation of Senator Hervé Mauret, head of the interparliamentary friendship group "France-Ukraine" of the French Senate. Ukrainian students had the opportunity to attend a meeting of the Senate (where at that time amendments to the draft law on higher education were discussed and voted on) and to take an interesting tour of the Luxembourg Palace, to learn about its palace and the modern functioning of the upper house of the French Parliament.
On February 8, 2018, future Ukrainian diplomats visited the Embassy of Ukraine in France, where they met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to France Oleg Shamshur and political adviser Mr Roman Toder. The students of IIR learned about the current state of relations between Ukraine and France and received answers to all their questions.
On February 9, in Brussels, the IIR delegation listened to four meaningful lectures in two key institutions of the European Union: the European Commission and the Council of the EU. As part of the visit to the European Commission, Mrs Virginia Mercuri from the European Commission's Directorate General for Communication spoke about the activities of the European Commission as a political executive body of the European Union, and then Mr Piotr Ligai, a translator from the Directorate General for Interpretation, introduced the audience to the organization of the European Commission's translation service and informed about the requirements for translation activity, tools and practical aspects of a translator's work. In the afternoon of February 9, the IIR delegation visited the main building of the Council of the European Union ( Justus Lipsius ), where she learned about the role and powers of the Council of the EU and the European Council (lecture by Mr Wolfgang Barwinkel, an official of the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU), as well as about the external relations of the EU and, in particular, the role of diplomacy in the context of the Eastern Partnership (lecture by Ms Marta Vytrykovska, an employee of the European External Action Service).
February 15, 2018, the IIR ART HALL opened the exhibition of paintings "Diagnostics of the soul" by the Ukrainian artist Anatoly Burtovoy. The curator of the exhibition was Iryna Oliynyk.
On February 21-28, 2018, within the framework of the Memorandum on cooperation between the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Higher Education and the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, a visit to India was held by the associate professor of the Institute, PhD. Bordilovska O.A.
On February 24-25, the international English-language debate tournament " Kyiv Open 2018". During two days and seven debate rounds, participants from eleven countries of Europe and the world discussed topical topics that go beyond youth issues and cover issues of international relations, politics, economy, social equality, public morality, etc. The team of judges included debaters -winners and finalists of the World Debate Championship.
On February 26, 2018, on the day when we commemorate the beginning of the occupation of the ARC and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation, as well as on the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea, the Taras Shevchenko Institute of International Relations of KNU signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with V. I. Vernadsky Tavri National University, which after the beginning of the occupation he moved to Kyiv.

May 2018
On May 3, 2018, a trip to a home for the elderly, a school and a kindergarten in the village of Orlivka took place. For 15 years in a row, every spring and autumn, the Institute of International Relations of T. Shevchenko Kyiv National University has been assisting a school, a kindergarten and a veterans' home in the village of Orlivka, Chernihiv region.
On May 5, 2018, a charity ball was held at the Institute of International Relations. The ball was opened by a grandiose polonaise, in which specially selected girls and young people took part. After the opening polonaise, the debutantes danced a cheerful polka and ended their performance with a waltz. The main criterion for the selection of participants was the ability to dance, in particular, to perform a right and left turn of the waltz.
