International Organizations and Diplomatic Service Chair

International Organizations and Diplomatic Service Chair was established in 1992 to provide an in-depth study of the basics of modern diplomacy, diplomatic and consular services, diplomatic protocol and etiquette, the history of Ukrainian diplomacy, theory and practice of multilateral diplomacy (international universal and regional organizations, specialized international organizations), the diplomatic practice of special missions, international conferences and meetings, etc., which is an integral part of the training of specialists in the field of foreign relations, including cadres for the diplomatic service of Ukraine.

The scientific staff of the chair consists of 11 full-time scientific and pedagogical specialists, from them: 3 Doctors of Sciences: Professor V.Matviienko, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Yu. Skorokhod, Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor N.Yakovenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences; 3 Doctors of Sciences; 7 Candidates of Sciences: Associate Professor T.Shynkarenko, Candidate of Historical Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor O.Kovtun, Candidate of Political Sciences (PhD), Associate Professor M.Konovalova, Candidate of Sciences in Public Administration (PhD), Associate Professor R.Petiur, Candidate of Political Sciences (PhD), Assistant K.Kuznietsova, Candidate of Political Sciences (PhD), Assistant I.Havrylenko, Candidate of Political Sciences (PhD), Assistant T.Tkach, Candidate of Political Sciences (PhD), Assistant S.Averianov.

At the Chair the training courses have been established, the main task of which is to train international relations specialists, well acquainted with world trends in international relations and global development, and researchers of theoretical and practical issues related to current trends in global governance, international cooperation and diplomatic work. International Organizations and Diplomatic Service Chair at the Institute of International Relations continue to develop the best traditions in the methodology of teaching theoretical and applied aspects of diplomat's work, strictly adhering to modern educational requirements now facing higher education.

The principal areas of International Organizations and Diplomatic Service Chair’s activity are educational and methodological, research, mentoring and vocational guidance work, as well as the development of international ties (participation in international scientific and scientific-practical conferences, etc.).

The staff of the Chair is primarily focused on the provision of the educational process at a high professional level (through lectures, seminars, practical training and master classes) and the preparation of educational and methodical complexes (curricula, textbooks, manuals and related to teaching various theoretical and practical aspects of diplomatic work).

Members of the Chair actively monitor current events in international life, conduct thorough research, prepare reviews and feedback, and provide expert assessments regarding the development of modern diplomacy in general and certain aspects of diplomatic work in particular, including diplomatic protocol and etiquette, diplomatic negotiations, etc. The Chair’s researchers and interpretations of the peculiarities of the development of domestic diplomacy and diplomatic service in the context of modern tendencies of international relations and world politics also deserve attention.

Tutors of the Chair give lectures abroad and take an active part in international scientific conferences. The Chair department successfully trains postgraduate students.

Much attention at the Chair is paid to educational and vocational guidance work with students. Tutors of the Chair are actively involved in extracurricular activities with students (through organizing the operation of student groups and clubs, hosting open master classes, visiting foreign diplomatic missions and missions of international organizations in Ukraine, etc.).
